Default Seehund (pic heavy)

Some of you know I work in the transportation industry. I handle mostly government transportation. My office was tasked to transport a submarine museum that for lack of a better word, foreclosed. The museum was located in Hackensack NJ. The items required transportation to Richmond VA. One item from the museum was a a German Seehund. Here are some pictures of the Seehund loaded to be transported.

I will have other pictures of various other items such as conning towers, etc.

Looks in a lot better shape than the one we saw at the USS Salem a few years back.

The museum items are in disrepair. Some were destroyed on site. Others very fragile. The museum was left to it's own devices for a long time. The items are US government owned. The museum was not. The owner of the museum did not look to re-up with the museum management. It was decided to demo the museum and sell the property to a builder. The museum items had to be collected and taken away.

It required 10 of our trucks to move the museum.

What does external loaded mean? I thought all torpedo's were externally loaded.

Never mind I read the rest of the story. Wow! Maybe we should do that with new coastal submarines?

I noted your article and saw this one in the same site: http://www.foxnews.com/science/2016/09/22/last-shipwreck-from-wwis-battle-jutland-found-near-norway.html Dated 9/22 2016: I don't recall if it was previously posted or not
Quote:
The wreck of the British warship HMS Warrior — the "last shipwreck" from the Battle of Jutland during World War I — has been discovered near Norway. It is in unspoiled condition-upside down. The marine exploration team that found the shipwreck also recently located the wreck of a World War II-era British submarine in the same region.
HMS Warrior/with torpedo netting booms...Untouched since her sinking; a museum time-capsule!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpedo_net
Quote:
The wreck was discovered in a search on 24 August 2016 The ship lies completely upside down, at a depth of 80 meters in an area of soft sea bed, up to the level of the upper deck. The ship appears to be largely intact, with no sign of the illegal metal salvage that has occurred on other Jutland wrecks. Warrior is the last of the 25 ships sunk at the Battle of Jutland to be located. There are concerns that the wreck may be exploited by illegal metal scavengers, despite the wreck being protected by the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986.

it looks like that Seehund was already a museum item during WWII. I have seen a similar Seehund with transparent windows displaying its mechanics, in a picture of a technology fair in Germany during WWII.

AVG, I visited there a couple of times. Yonkers, NY is fairly close by, so it was an easy trip. A real shame what has happened there. Even my wife enjoyed the USS Ling tour. I had hoped that the USS Intrepid could aquire the Ling, and dock her along side like other sub they have there. Very sad to say the least.

I was not on sight. Although I had a representative on the ground.
