It was 1.4 when it was removed and I have no problems with SH4 phoning home to UBI or anywhere else using the SH4 D2D digital download or the D2D 1.5 U-Boats add-on.

( I did purchase the DVD just to have but have never opened it )

Furthermore, I don't use gu.exe that was for checking for updates to start the game, I use sh4.exe because I didn't want SH4 changing any files - especially if enabled with JSGME.

Lastly, I began making an edit years ago to another file, "main.cfg" in the install that enabled possible checks for whatever:
Quote:
Main.cfg:

[DEVELOPING]
DevDebugEnable=Yes
DevEditEnable=Yes
MiniDump=Yes

Changed to:

[DEVELOPING]
DevDebugEnable=No
DevEditEnable=No
MiniDump=No
This edit probably does nothing - to the best of my knowledge.

.... and just for fun because it is 'on topic':

This assumption of "game is finished" is really getting annoying.
Happy Hunting!

No it doesn't phone home, just refuses to run if a prohibited process is found. Go to the Microsoft website and look for Process Explorer, a task manager replacement, having nothing whatever to do with defeating copy protection. After you install it and run it SH4 will refuse to run if you have the D2D download version.

Whoa! Great catch there. That was a game update checker which was never used because there were no updates ever. But it did cause lots of CTDs and other problems with Silent Hunter 4. Ubi advised its bypass a long time ago and I'd completely forgotten about it.

So yes, never run GU.exe. Switch to directly running SH4.exe to prevent lots of problems.

Wow, I really don't understand what I'm voting for on the poll...
Do I still like SH4, Absolutely!! SH4 for me is just as immersive as any of the other games. I play SH4 and 5 right now and I love them both.
This isn't just about U-Boats but I've gone back and read a lot of the patrol reports from the fleet boats and they are scary. The game never really gets there but that is understandable. There a players who love SH3 just as much for the SH3 Commander and GWX mods.
C'mon.... SH4 is still just as fun to mess around the pacific (which I happen to think is a much more interesting place to sail, it's huge, and danger is just around the next strait.
I hope no-one is even thinking about losing any of the forums or threads on this site. Besides, the ships in SH4 are really great looking, and there are many many types.
I've got a pretty nice ASUS laptop, I just did that patch where the exe now sees that I've got 8g of ram instead of 2... The game is playing even better now.
So, I'm playing two campaigns. One in the Atlantic with SH5 and one in the Pacific with SH4. I think both sims are great and I think we should keep 'em all.
Good Hunting

PS; I really don't understand this poll, if I'm voting a yes or a no, or if "taker" is afirmitive in this case. Can't we just have some yes or no questions. SH5 takers still? Whaaaa?? If I check "What are your opinions on this"... what will happen?
This just doesn't look like a poll. I wish I could vote on it but I don't see a question.

I'm into modern submarines so I play TMO with the SSBN Ohio-class submarine. I also use the seawolf and Los Angeles. If you're interested give me a PM.

It's the same game (SH4) just those are mods you can use with the game. See it as an add on perhaps...

TMO makes the game more realistic.

I definately want it to stay alive,. At least until someone picks up the torch, comes up with a new and better engine and creates the next generation of Silent Service simulation in the PTO. I am not, nor will I ever be interested in the Atlantic side of things.

Try going up an extra 1 or 2 feet. With u boat add on missions the periscope depths were changed in the American subs. In rough weather, I usually go up an extra couple of feet, you sometimes still get wash over the scope.
