Default My first carrier!

This is a story about one unlucky japanese aircraft carrier, one lucky sub captin, and some really bad escorts.

I was deployed to the East China Sea and told to attack merchant shipping. After a couple small freighters (this was only 1941.) my radar called in a task force at long range. Since I needed some ships to complete my objective, I went for it. After lying in wait for a few boring days, a Hiryu fleet carrier shows up, her escorts nowhere in sight. I called in the contact and began to trail this lovely lady. Command tells me to attack at once. Four torpedoes away, four direct hits, and 16000 pound of japanese engineering goes to the bottom.

I still don't know what happened to the rest of the task force, or why this carrier had no escorts. What I do know though, was that for the rest of my patrol, wherever I went, airplanes still found me. I think that carrier was getting her revenge.

Congrats. As a newbie of sorts, I haven't even seen a carrier. I just started playing TMO 2.0. Don't mean to re-direct your thread, but could you tell me how you did this? "I called in the contact ..... Command tells me to attack at once."
Thanks.

Way to go, airmanwilhelm20. Yeah, I still remember my first carrier. Nothing beats the feeling of taking down a whole air force at sea, except, maybe, the Yamato.

Well done on the CV, sir. Could be a Navy Cross in the offering when you return from patrol.

Default Thanks everybody

Thanks for all the replies, your probably right, the Yamamoto would be cooler to sink. And jldjs, when your radar or sonar calls in a task force or a convoy and you see the first ship, lock onto it, hit f12, go to the second tab (the messages one) and there should be two buttons you could press, one for a status report being sent to command, and one for a contact report. Hit the one for contact report and wait. Command will either tell you to attack or disengage and continue with your mission. In my case it was attack at once for being a carrier.

Very nice! I remember my first carrier. It was really a defining moment for me. Each time I sink a carrier now, I can't help but compare it to my first time... Wait, this is sounding too much like something else... I'm gonna stop.

I managed to take a carrier the other day, it had huge escorts but i only had 2 torps left. I fired 2 and hit with one and was surprised to see it capsize within a short space of time!

I never call in contacts lol, i never knew you could! Will give it a go now!

Hey, Hans I don't think I could sink a carrier with ramming speed. Even though that would be cool to try. If you somehow get through the escorts, their deck guns, and whatever guns and aircraft the carrier has around it, you would probably be dead before you got within 1 mi.

I once sank a carrier by ramming it and the one beside it by pushing it out to sea....

However both were basically sunk by torps in shallow water at Tawi, but wouldn't go deep enough to register sunk. I rammed one enough that it finally sunk, the other I put my bow against the bridge and was able to push it just enough to deep water that it went under....Rather funny, but was rather mad they wouldn't go under...

Realistic...not hardly.

Nice job airman!!!! I once had a carrier in my sights but was in shallow water surrounded by IJN destroyers and had to let her slowly slip away and live to fight another day that was killer!

I was sailing around in USS Montpelier lastnight, on perhaps her 87th war patrol, when the Nuke Boat stumbles on a jap taskforce. 4 fish and the carriers sink,...and before i can even order flank speed on a 300 foot dive, all the warships decide to raise hell, and the 120 or so odd crew, (60ish ingame?) go down.

Sadly i havent seen a Carrier since, and even with 35knots underwater, i can never find one now.
