What exactly is the ‘Bearing’ dial for in the TDC?

I’ve experimented with the fixed wire method in game. I attacked a two ship convoy moving across at an angle of 55 degrees port. The lead ship was an escort so I let him pass and fired off two torps at the following tanker once he reached my ideal solution. I then fired two at the destroyer. I hoped to hit them both at the same time, however the tanker got hit first. I was watching the torpedoes via the cheat on the map and I think my solution was good on the destroyer, though he twigged after the tanker was hit and jinked.

It’s about time I got rid of the map torpedoes. How is this done?

I have made many videos including an intro to the TDC. It’s for SH3 but it works the same for 5. Click my signature.

Good hunting!

Very nice hit! I think if you access the realism options when you’re in the bunker by pressing escape, there should be a setting in there I think?

The bearing dial on the TDC shows the bearing your optics are pointed to, the same bearing that’s at the top of your scope.

I thought the realism option was ‘ no external camera’ but I seem to still get the map symbols.

So the ‘bearing’ dial isn’t actually something you manually need to set?

Thanks bstankoe. I’ll check that out.

Correct, you don’t need to set that. The game, just like the real device, allowed for bearings from the optics to automatically transmit to the TDC, and show on that dial. Just make sure you have the TDC button clicked to update (ie to link the TDC bearing to the optics).

And yes, definitely check out bstanko6’s channel, he’s got some great stuff on there!
