Default Question for Mike Hense

May be asking a question you haven't figured out yourself, but I'm curious what kind of campaign system you think your finished sim will have?

hey guys... sorry for the delay in replying...

right now it is pretty much a straight line affair, similar to MOH... but i will be adding some code to allow for alternate pathways depending on a few factors... but eventually, the war in the Pacific is won by the US and her Allies, that much won't change...

but in subsequent versions, the prospect of taking a path towards a nuclear war will be possible

i'm kinda far down the development road with this, but lemme hear your thoughts on this and what you'd like to see as an ideal scenario/campaign type thing...

Dynamic, preferably. You shouldn't know what's going to happen when you leave port. Different every time. But I understand this is probably impossible for one person to do, especially in mid development.

there is a bit of randomness in every mission... i'm still on some other coding, but i've run a test mission, combat patrol and training mission... and it's not like the game will progress the same way each time a particular mission is run...

each patrol is a set of linked scenarios... for instance, when the patrol starts out, you may encounter a convoy, either escorted or not... aircraft... enemy subs... all at random times along your patrol... and the next scenario in the opatrol will depend on what you do, and the outcome...

the training missions are similarly setup...

but i think that it's important to explain here, that this isn't gonna be like SH3 in many aspects... there is a lot more 'hands on' involvement with the submarine here... you have a lot more to be concerned with than fast timing to the next convoy intercept and setting up a solution... you'll have your hands more than full controling the submarine... operating the systems, searching for the eemy... and for a single player captain, that's gonna mean either giving the right orders, or taking direct command of each station, depending on your particular preference, so that the sub and crew completes the mission, and returns home safely...

i'll be more involved with this apect of the sim in another week... i'll be able to give you more details about the final 'specs' then... right now a few things are still in flux...
