Default What's missing?

ok, sports fans, trivia question. what is missing from the Balao as it is escaping at 320 feet?

Well, to these tired old eyes, it looks like your "shark" has lost its "teeth", like maybe a depth charge took off part of the bow, including tube doors. Almost like your boat was almost filleted horizontally... Along with that, your "pectoral fins" (aka: dive planes) are gone... rather an odd looking Balao - but you still have your headlight!!! Or is that just a horribly water-distorted conn?... lol

yep, no bow planes. so how did i get to 300 feet?
i suppose the crew left the hatches open and let some water in the boat.
btw, i have them back for the present mission.
maybe it was an upgrade.

The dive planes are a cosmetic effect. Depth and angle are controlled by the games sub controller, this effect is pronounced greatly when you use one of the nuclear sub mods. Holding stern planes at full dive at a flank bell should result in you becoming a mud dart, yet you somehow don't exceed a 20 degree angle.

yeah, i understand real life....
i was poking fun at the application.

my father was a GM 2/c on a diesel boat during the war but he always described himself as a bowplanesman....probably because he spent more time there than manning a gun or even as a lookout. in fact, i do not think i ever met a diesel-boat-seaman who described himself as a lookout. i can understand that.

those two ratings are now separate, as you probably know. i wonder if subs even carry GM anymore.

No need for a Gunner's Mate, no guns to shoot other than small arms.
They've been replaced by Missile Techs, etc

the bow planes came back during the next mission...especially after my COB made a big stink back at Pearl.

TMs handle all the small arms, MTs are really just glorified babysitters.
