Icon8 Prime video subtitles

I've tried a number of times but can't find a setting to turn off these annoying subtitles that show when some event takes place such as:
entering a post office, hospital, police station etc, someone looking into a computer screen.
There are many more and the subtitles are always in a different language like Spanish/Malaysian, white and very large.
Settings have subtitles off but in English.
These titles are not actually subtitles, happens on all shows.
Can anyone assist, trying to get through to Amazon Prime is almost impossible!!
Thanks.

Btw, Netflix doesn't have this annoying problem.

Edit: It may be called "closed captioning" when words appear on a screen within the show you're watching.

If you're watching via SmartyPants TV or console, see if you have Closed Captions on in the device settings somewhere, 'ease of access' or some such.

I will try that though the HDMI Samsung TV settings would surely be global and not just Prime.

G'day

Does Aussie count as English?
On a side note, Amazon subtitles are the worst, so you're not missing anything.

Hi Jason, I googled around for quite some time and came across a forum with a lot of complaints about the same thing, seems it's a bug!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAndro...man_subtitles/

Not sure what I can do about it though!!

This is on any Prime show Jim, the only way out is to dump Prime and stick to Netflix. Trouble is most of my shows I'm watching are on Prime!!

I think what happened is the person writing the subtitles inserted the entire script instead of just the dialouge. So, now it has stage directions on the subtitles.

Actually, it may just be a cost cutting tactic; some services have dedicated subtitle 'channels' to serve particular purposes; there is the usual straight ST where its just the straight text of the dialog, and there is also the ST designed for the hearing impaired, commonly known as "Closed Captioning" where the ST also includes descriptions of the ambient sounds and other audible aspects, such as soundtrack musical cues, in addition to the ST text; I have noticed a few instances where the two are mixed, such as you describe, and I wonder if the streaming services may be taking a shortcut in an attempt to cut the costs of having to create two separate formats, no to mention the savings in bandwidth utilization...
