Default 3d models

I've been looking for quite sometime, for a way to open the .j3d files, and to convert them to 3ds. i've read allmost all the treads that talk about this subject but i unable to find any software to accomplish this task.

So, why do i need to convert j3d to 3ds. Well I'm a modeler, and my medium of choice is paper . Yes you read it correctly I build models using paper and card, and if you guys don't belived check this thread http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthre...ighlight=kursk
It's not my work, but shows what can be achieved with paper.
I'm currently designing a couple of subs, the Akula II and the Kilo, and i'm planing to design a few more, so I was thinking of using (as blueprints) the 3d models present, in Sub command, or Dangerous Waters to create the patterns needed to create these models. There are several ways to achieve this, one of the simpliest's would be to use this program: http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/ that allows to convert 3d models to patterns that you can cut and glue

I hope someone can shed some light into this issue.

Thanks for the offer, but at this moment i'm looking for real world subs. The ships are a little too complicated for me. The reason why i wanted to convert j3d models (especially from sub command) is simply because those models, are more simple , at least they seem to be, and as such i don't have much time correcting the models, in order to be able to build them. But the silence, seems to show that there isn't a way, or that those who know how to do it don't share the info.

Hey s33k3r

I have just found out how to convert the j3d to 3ds, a very kind person on this forum let me know how to do it.

If you would like me to convert one of the model, for you to try out has a test and if that works OK I can send you the stuff you need to convert the model's yourself. Or if it would be easier and quicker for you, let know which model you would like and I will do all the long winded work for you no probs.

PM me your email address and I will sent you a test model.

Hunter Killer Sub
Hey that Hunter Killer Sub looks neat. I wouldn't mind playing with it if you feel like making it publically available.

Yep no probs with making them publically available, I will post a download link for model's, if you like me know which files you would like .J3D or .3ds files or both of them.
I'm glad you like them, and thanks for saying niceone. They were my first two goes at modelling.

Hi, I want (if possible) change the position of 100mm of Udaloy DDG (lower) in the 3d model.
I tried changing the coordinates (x,y,z) of 100mm with a database editor unsuccessfully. Now I will try changing the 3d model opening the .j3d file of Udaloy but I do not know how to do (converting the .j3d file in another format ?).

Von faust,

If you can send me the Udaloy DDG.J3D file and its texture files, I can convert the model to .3ds for you no probs.

My email is fleetcommandcc@aol.co.uk

Which graphic modelling program do you use?
