Started posting at subsim.com September 2001, was playing Sub Command back then, and doing lots of graphics for that sim, ships and planes, also a couple custom missions (Hauraki Havoc for example).

I still remember old forum members from back then, people like XabbaRus and Thomasew.

Was AWOL for at least 4 yrs or so, and only recently came back to submarine simming (SH3 which I no longer play, and now SH4) - was no question for me about where to look for hints and mods - there's no place around like this one

I've been around Subsim since 1998. My family got their first computer back then. It was a Compac 350 mhz computer. A little after I got online and found out about SHI and could not get it to run until someone here at SubSim gave the directions on how tog SH1 working. If you look under downloads on the SubSim website and SHI. You'll see two things for Custom Missions made by Jeff Johnson (that's me). Don't post all that much anymore, but I still come around on a daily basis to check on what's happening.

I'm right at the top of the list.

5/9/2002 is the earliest post I see in that old forum .

I'm not the oldest member by a long shot, but here's the link to my oldest post I can find in the archive http://www.subsim.com/phpBB_2002/vie...ic=752&forum=2 . I was an SC fan back in those days and still play it occassionally but SHIII/GWX seems to take up most of my gaming time these days.

Neal - I have often thought that the oldest active member should have the highest ranked avatar rather than link it to the number of posts a member has submitted, but I suppose that would not be easy to do.

The oldest message on the linked forums for myself dates back to January 2003, but before that there was another board. It was simple to use and banter went back and forth, but there wasn't much banter going on 3 September 2000 around 2300 AEST.

That was the moment that the game Iron Wolves was turned off.

I was prowling in the SW after performing yet another Area 51 excursion. On line at the time were Mongoose, Tbar, Buxton, Taffy, Silvercat, Silvercat, Erich the Red(?). Popeye had 'vanished' about an hour before and never came back. My bud Drizzt had just racked up his highest score ever in a lite sub (I'm gonna say 935000). We had not long before just looked at the high scores kept by On Line (the provider of the game) and we were talking about the proliferation of names on that list.

I had a listing in the top 10 of all missions, and was in the all time high score of every vessel - except the DD. (Even my eldest was in front of me in a DD)

We were talking about a forthcoming trip I had when all of a sudden, the server went dead, and never came back to life.

On this, and another board, we logged our approaches back and forth and what we were doing, refunnds on unused credits, continued debitting of our accounts, no answer at their office. A sour taste left after a great period in time.

I claim to be the oldest one for no particular reason!
My first post has been lost to the sands of time but I remmber fondly when we had sylex made mouse pointers and the smiley were made with the blood of the respective animal we had slain that night and brought to the cave, where the family group would sit by the fire and play SH 0.-00003.1 beta...

Remember the BB Melee's? So much fun.

Don't actually know how long I've been around, I think since mid 2001.
Edit: My profile says Feb so there you go. I was a mere 14 year old then.

In the words of an old song by the Kingston Trio:

I was born a hundred thousand years ago;
And there ain't a single thing that I don't know.
I've seen everything that's been,
Around the world and back again;
And I'll WHUP the man who says it isn't so!

Yes, be nice to Steve; but not because you will learn something special, or because you'll be punished if you don't. Be nice to Steve because it's the nice thing to do.

Im not the oldest by a longshot, but ive got quite a fiew posts in ever sense I joined. Joined mid july. Was lurking around for a couple of months. I guess il tell ya where I came from. I use to be on the ship simulator fourms, Then one day when I was lurking around here, I noticed that the SH4 section wasnt open anymore... I knew that Reece was a member on this fourm so I asked him ( he is/was on there to) He told me about what happend and that was what gave me the push to join SS. Then there was a topic about what you would like to have put into a add on for the game, I mentioned that Id like a bismark or warship add on, Then All H*** broke loose. One guy got sarcastic with me and I said good buy to that place. They have a issue with warships without working guns being put in the game. But I tell you one thing. I wish I would have joined SS sooner.

Actual pic of me preforming complex calculus problems in my head while attempting to post into the future sometime last Thursday.
