If that is the 1, I think that you're asking about... Soviet Waterways, I think is the name.... I d/l'ed it, installed it... &... other than some things still there in russian'esqe language... found it to be playable.... though, did have a bit of difficulty in planning out torp attacks. Owing to that, is that there is no TDC or gyro's on the torps... so, have to really plot out your attacks.

Guess, I'm too much used to weap's assisted planning out attacks...

Outside of that, played just fine.

Has been a bit since I cranked it up & can't recall if there is.... russian voices in it or not. (Just checked... & there is in the last mod set, russian voices listed in there... ) &.... there is an eng. translation pack to add to it, as well. Thanks to vickers03...

Main thread for it, can be found here:

https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=247332

Best download source, can be found here:

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/9m1...Soviet_Fairway (will want to download the contents found in v1.11 & v1.12 folders... the Eng. translation folder can be found in post #6, in the main thread... oooppsss... forgot to mention that, when I originally posted. )

Hope this info helps...

I quite enjoy Soviet Waterways and find it a unique submarine simulation. As noted above, you have no automated torpedo computer but an AOB calculating whiz-wheel is available in the periscope and bridge sight screens.

Should you take the plunge,(pun intended) be prepared for unique problems and situations.

- Red Fleet boats are generally slow to dive. The little ShVbis "Pike" Class are about the equivalent to the Type VII but take more than a minute to crash dive in an environment that quickly becomes heavy with air threats. Its AAA is a single 45mm, single shot weapon as is the deck gun, same calibre, slightly different gun.

- Mines are everywhere in the Black Sea and Baltic and in the coastal areas of the Arctic. Negotiating the extensive minefields limit your TC if you wish to live but on the other hand, most patrols are limited in duration since the theatres are so small.

- Somebody translated the manual and it may still be out there somewhere. It's very similar to and of the same quality as the superb GWX3 manual so it's well worth perusing for its own sake.

- Even using the English translation mod (a must-have for us unilingual barbarians) orders are generally untranslated as are most radio messages. Objective locations are shown on the map and these are usually enough.

- Each theatre brings different challenges and targets but the threat of the Luftwaffe is everywhere. As least some of the Arctic convoys appear to be scripted and might offer a shot at German surface ships from time to time. Merchant traffic is limited and often a thousand tons or less. Don't expect to wrack up large scores until 1944-45 Baltic Sea area and even then do not count on easy kills.

Anyway, Soviet Waterways offers an entirely different experience; different and much more limited an primitive boats, shallow, heavily mined seas and limited opportunities to score large tonnages, if that's your thing. It's certainly worth a try but is not for all Sub-simmers.

There are a number of threads on the mod and you might also search under "Battle for the Baltic".

There are some others out there. My Mod list for Version 12 is here:

Addon Soviet Waterway (v_111)
Path SW v_112
Ðóññêèå øðèôòû
Realmine_SW
TheDarkWraith_DC_Water_Disturbance_v2_0_SH4
Webster's Eliminate Floating Plankton
English_translation_LITE_SW110
3000 Yard-Meter Bearing Tools (1280x960)
ArcticSea

I have no idea what Line-3 above might be, it was included in the download and although I have Cyrillic fonts on my computer, the text came out as above. At least one other Soviet Waterways user has copied this mod order with success.

Good Luck, Comrade

Thanks Gents! I might give it a plunge as Randomizer said. Appreciate the input by you all as usual.

ok, got it and it runs quite well.
Having a problem with the torps though.
Are they not like other torps that alter their course once fired ?

All my attempts thus far have them travel in a straight line

Yeah, unlike the UK, American, German torp's... the Soviets torps, didn't have a gyro in them... as I recall... heck, the subs didn't even house a TDC, either for that fact.

Talk about total reliance on attack planning.... yeeessshhhh.... am giving it a go, to see of learning to have to rely on My own attack planning... without any training wheels, so to speak

And by training wheels, relying on the weap's, to assist in that.
