Default 8,8cm Deck Gun for the Type IID? Just for WW1 atmosphere...

Dear comrades,

since I'm heavily interested in WW1 submarines rather than those of WW2, I've been playing the Silent Hunter 3 campaign with my type II sub - also renaming the subs "S.M.U-..." instead of just "U-...".

It's a real pitty not having a modern WW1 submarine simulation. However, I've moded the type IID to being some sort of a WW1 era submarine, adding a nice hull texture and just two or three more extra torpedos.

The question I'm having is - does anybody of you know, which cfg file I'd have to change, to be able to put a 8,8 deck gun on the type II instead of the flak? I've already found the section in the Basic.cfg, but changing it has hardly an effect on the game. I've just managed to remove the flak.

Since I'm in my last semester of my bachelor degree in geomatics engineering, I might soon have plenty of time to implement a WW1 mod for Silent Hunter 3. Maybe there are others who are interested in that as well.

I generally do not do well modding the files in SH3 myself, and I have no clue as to what you need to edit, but perhaps you would be interested in this thread:

[WIP] Wolves of the Kaiser:1914-1918 Mod

It is SH4, but it is WWI, and iambecomelife is doing remarkable work in it, especially his attention to detail and his 3D work.

Thanks a lot for the information! I've read through the thread you provided me. I've heard of it before, but I thought that it was somewhat dead and never came towards the realization. As far as I was concerned this was just an idea. But I am really looking forward to this.

The only problem is that my SH4 won't start using the steam-version. By the time this mod is released, I'd have to check on that.

You need to edit the .eqp file.
