Awesome! Thank you so much for the pics! One stupid question from me, What do the difference in the emblems mean? Regular meatball being merchant and the other being navy ships?

i went looking for the sonar station in the control room and could not find it. probably removed. the repeater was in the attack compartment.

since my friend and i were ex-USN we were granted permission to enter the attack compartment which is dogged and chain-locked. that ladder gets steeper every year. it will always amaze me when i visit that compartment and try to visualize the attack crew at work and the lack of physical space.

there is not one soft spot in that entire submarine. when it was under attack and the crew would be jostled around from depth bombs, there is no way in hell that most of the crew would not be bruised and battered. hell, i was bruised and battered just walking through the GD boat.

Yes definitely a unique and unforgiving environment, could see myself if trying to run through to battle stations etc and hitting the knee knockers lol. The sonar was not in the conning tower?

oh yeah, there was a repeater unit, but the main unit would be in a corner (?) of the control room.
as i observed previously, there was not a soft place in the whole boat.

@Kaleun Marco

Thanks for sharing those Looks like a great time all around. Were you allowed into the conning tower to get a look at the TDC and all the other cool gear? I wanted to get a good look at the DR tracer. The Pompanito had the conning tower gated off, at least when I went through in 1986. I was bummed!

The tubes on deck are ready service lockers for the deck gun........if I remember correctly

Yes, i was able to get to the Attack center but not the Bridge. that ladder gets steeper and higher every year. here are some photos. one is blurred because i moved while the shutter was taking the shot. there is truly not much room up there. and it is dark. and cramped. and not very high (as in overhead). and hard.
