Default Regarding the old vampire night vision problem.....

I've been disappointed how at some point in time playing any install with a 16k environment, sooner or later my crew can see ships at that distance at night.
With H.sie's patch to fix vampire vision applied.
Probably old news, but maybe it'll help someone. Doing some research on the subject I found some old threads that stated H.sie's fix was meant to be used with his 2012 envsim.act file; the fog line mentioned in the fixes documentation requires this file as well as his weather option fix to be chosen in the patch options selector.

I had only very briefly used this env. file but after reading these old files, started to use it and now no more crew night vision problems !! Finally they can see at acceptable distances at night.

Stiebler's envsim10 files are said to have also been adapted to fit with H.sie's vampire vision patch.

So if your crew is seeing to far at night and you're using H.sie's patch choose one of two envsim options.
1. In the options selector choose H.sie's vampire vision and weather fix patches.
2. Use his envsim.act file included in his Supplement folder.

or

1. In the options selector choose H.sie's vampire vision patch but do not choose his weather fix.
2. Use the envsim10.act file from Stiebler according to his documentation on which to use.

John,

Nice find.

Have been using H.Sie patch for the Night Vision Fix along with Stiebler's envsimAct10 file and have always had reasonable visual night vision on my crew.

At times I am not so sure about the AI escorts as they seem to see much further at night than my crew, or at least it seem that way.

Again, great find in putting the pieces together.

Good hunting,

Thanks Bob. I was lucky to find the thread. Strange that H.sie's documentation doesn't mention that the fix was meant to be used with his envsim.act file (Stiebler's envsim10 didn't exist then). Regarding your crew if you haven't already make sure your sensors.cfg file is set up as he recommends.
Anyway, works outstanding now. Finally I have realistic night vision that I can depend on working every time !

Thank you John for your efforts and for the solution you found

I always use the patch this way, but I had no idea that could be the reason

Yes, we don’t read documentation provided enough carefully
I figured this out not long ago...reading carefully Stiebler documentation, i realized using EnvSim.act dated 2016, we must not activate Hsie bad weather fix otherwise the Night Vision Fix will NOT work
Using EnvSim.act dated 2012 or below, we can activate Hsie bad weather fix without any bad effect on night vision fix...

That said, there are some fine tune to be done on fog distances and Hsie.ini file, because night vision fix is using fog layer to decrease the crew night vision.

Well applying H.sie's weather fix in his patch or not wasn't the problem for me; it was not knowing that his envsim file was also needed to produce the fog layer he mentions in his documentation. I figured his patch did so with any envsim file. This is not the case. Strange that H.sie didn't mention such in his documentation. I knew that if using Stiebler's envsim10 patch with H.sie's fixes one had to not choose H.sie's weather fix.
The only reason Stiebler's envsim10 file (and the one he had made at the time) also works is because he modified it to act like H.sie's envsim file regarding the fog layer to do so.

It's very noticeable when it's working as it should. Here is the thread that gave me the info. for anyone interested, starting at post #973.
Pay notice to the conversation be Lanzfeld, makman94, and Stiebler on the issue.
