Default How the Hades do you get SH4 to Work these days?

As with the title.... I've tried the 4GB patch, which doesn't recognize SH4.exe.... I've tried the LAA.exe files and none of them do anything.

What's next on things to try, or does it just not work anymore?

This is my system:

CPU: I9
GPU: RTX 3090
Win 10 64bit

Any help is greatly appreciated.

2 primary questions...

1. Source of your copy of SH4 & what version is it.?

2. Where, exactly... are you, installing that copy.?

This will... greatly, help narrow down what is the cause of your... woes.

In addition to what MM asks, the SH4.exe and the FileManager.dll in the main game folder are apparently "Write-protected", or as Windows will show on a Properties tab, "Read-only". Right-click on the files in question, and choose "Properties" from the context menu, and on the first "Genral" tab, at the bottom is the "Attributes" section. Clear the tick mark in the "Read-only" box. OK your way out. Now try the LAA & MultiSH4. Also, the 'modern' Windows OS, in addition to restricting the "Program Files" folders from User intervention (tic), will also cause trouble with your video stream, and you might have to noodle with the settings for it, on that same "Properties" for the SH4.exe file:

You will have to experiment here, since apparently, no two computers are alike. Of course, it all still hinges largely on Mad Mardigan's #2 question largely. If you have a disk version of the game, we could also add a third question: "Did you install the DrirectX v9.0c and its Codecs?", but the newer download versions of the game will do that for you.

Thank you for the help!

I am using the Steam edition of the game and as such I think it's the latest update and the install folder under \SteamApps\Common (Love that film btw Mardigan) on a different drive than my OS.... Steam says the build ID is: 252098 Not sure what that translates to in version number though....

PropBeanie: I will try that!

Aktungbby: Thank you!

As do I, hence why I chose to use Val's character name in it, as My... moniker.

As for SH4, how is it listed that you can see of...

Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific (which would be version 1.4, from Steam... App ID for My copy, is 15200)

Silent Hunter IV: Wolves of the Pacific - U-boat Missions (which would be version 1.5, from Steam... App ID for this 1 for Me, is 15240)

App ID, is the thing you want to look for, I believe...

Build ID, I think, is for their records keeping, as a means to ensure that that copy is that persons paid for one... am guessing here.
