Default Australian report on comparing US and Chinese military stands in the Pacific

... is no compliment for the US position anymore.

"Overall the Trump Administration's foreign policy often lacks a clear strategic aspect and is prone to the whims of the Presidential twitter feed and bizarre distractions like his apparent desire to purchase Greenland."

Ah.

On it's face the Trump interest in Greenland may stem from 'snatch and grab' tactics of the Chinese 'yellow peril' when they tried to ingratiate themselves fianancially onto Greenland concerning air-field developement, which Denmark declined. Their world-wide Belt and Road strategy is long-range with no timetable. The US Thule Base on Greenland does'nt need a Sino influence so close in the Western hemisphere...especially in the 'English speaking lake' (Atlantic). Chinese 'snatch and grab' tactics: reminiscent of the Nazi's tactics, with Tibet in 1950 and the present South China Sea encroachment and fortification! leave no illusion as to long-term intent. The current Chinese interest in the Arctic Ocean assets, even without 'shoreline status', now that global warming has made it navagable is of interest...think 'Polar Silk Road' here, with Earth's' largest zinc/iron rich island as the keystone. Even to the nervous Russians-they can handle a China ally to the south, but won't appreciate an Arctic encirclement to the north!!

I suspect regaining control of Taiwan will be the eventual spark.

What I have learned throughout the history of the military is.....it's not always the country with most military equipment or knowhow who won a war.

oh good! Our 2 million or so against half
a billion Chinese imbues me with great expectation of some semblance of some sort agreeable outcome. Ironically, most people forget that the world's second largest 'chinese nation' is the USA: 3.8 million; followed by Australia, Canada, & Singapore!?... As for the 'eventual Taiwan spark', the remarkably restrained response to the present Hong Kong unrest will force China to show what is in iron-fisted store for Taiwan should the Taiwanese ultimately capitulate to the mainland hegemony...:

And post 2014 PRC has secured safe rear via de-facto alliance with Russia.

While Russia may refuse to assist China in any Taiwan related operation directly, China would still maintain secure lines of communications and access to raw resources via Russia and Russian allies.
