15th July 1940

Luftwaffe target: Convoy Pilot

There was very little enemy activity, probably owing to bad weather. A few raids occurred in the Cardiff, Swansea, Portsmouth and Southampton areas, off the Thames Estuary and Norfolk Coast. One raid also visited Drem. A certain amount of activity was also experienced over convoys on the south and east coasts.

CASUALTIES:
  • Enemy:
    • Fighters - nil
    • Bombers - 1 confirmed, 3 unconfirmed
    • AA claims destruction of one bomber in above totals.
  • Own:
    • No. 213 Squadron - 1 Hurricane (in combat off Plymouth).
    • No. 145 Squadron - 1 Hurricane (crashed on landing, Swales Farm, Wickham).
    • No. 249 Squadron - 1 Hurricane (crashed and burned out near York at 0053 hours).
    • No. 249 Squadron - 1 Hurricane (crashed on landing).

Yellow Leader - 151 Squadron - RAF North Weald

Piss poor weather, bumpy as hell and thick cloud above two thousand feet. Found the convoy and circled. The pencils showed up a short time later, attacked and claimed one but not credited.

Returned to base after receiving several shots in the engine causing the RPMs to go crazy.

Claimed one Do-17 (Pe-2)

Pilots Notes:
Bloody kill stealing AI...

16th July 1940

Luftwaffe target: Ventnor

Enemy air activity was greatly reduced, apparently owing to unfavourable weather conditions. The few hostile raids that were plotted up to 1600 hours were probably meteorological reconnaissance and searching for shipping. In the early evening bombs were dropped on two points in North East Scotland and one of the raiders shot down. Off the South and South West coasts activity remained slight, but in the evening a raid appeared off the Isle of Wight, and two enemy aircraft were shot down into the sea.

CASUALTIES:
  • Enemy:
    • Fighters - nil
    • Bombers - 2 confirmed
  • Own:
    • None

Yellow Leader - 601 Squadron - RAF Biggin Hill

Scrambled to intercept contacts bound for the Isle of Wight at Angels ten. Yellow two developed a fault on take off and had to abort, it was a simple fix but unfortunately this was discovered too late for him to take part in the sortee. Junkers sighted over Ventnor, the cheeky blighters dive bombed the place. Got one, but got riddled and then roasted whilst chasing down another.

Yellow One chases down his Junkers whilst another of 601 swoops in.

Yellow One gets his Junkers

Confirmed One Ju-88

Burnt alive and crashed into the Solent.

Pilots Notes:
Must not get greedy and try for two bombers when one is enough. Never attack two bombers that are in a group within good range of each other. If forced to attack said bombers, then boom and zoom, do not come in from the rear and sit there like a bloody duck waiting to be shot.

Gentlemen, I appear to be on fire...

Pilot's Log
16th July

Since I have no luck with drinking my Tea hot lately, I switched to Ice Tea.
I'm in my Spitfire with the canopy open in the late afternoon breeze about to enjoy my can of Ice tea ''Kssship!'' when at the sudden ''cocking of a Lee Enfield - BANG!'' my Spit's mirror was shot to pieces
I carefully looked outside my canopy and turned around and saw Yellow one leaning outside his cockpit holding a smoking Lee Enfield rifle making something very clear

Great, mirror gone and still no Tea...this sortie bodes well.

We're ordered to fly around 10k and wait for the Ju88's raid on the isle of Wright.

We're flying halfway when I carefully brought my Ice tea to my lips to have a zip ''Ssssllrrrp'' when Yellow One came came throught the radio with the spinning of the cylinder of his Webley Revolver and mumbling ''The Webley Mk IV .38 calibre, Double action, 20 - 30 rounds a minute and the cylinder that can hold up to 6 rounds''....Aww..sh!t my radio channel was open. Anyway...we kept around 10.000 feet heading for the Isle of Wright hoping to intercept the Ju88's before they make their run.

When over the target area we quikly spoted the raid and engaged at will, the Ju88's pounded the coastal village hard. I finally found a Ju88 to shoot at but the Ju88 also found me tempting to shoot at and unfortunately he won...after a blaze of his rear gunner my windshield was covered with oil and my poor merlin was about to gave in and was forced to crashland...I managed to crashland in the fields and was left without injuries.
I opened up the canopy and sat on the side of my Spit....Yellow One seemed to have fried himself in his cockpit and crashed into the Solent, the poor chap.
Least I could do is bring out a toast...*fiddles around in his Spit's cockpit* Ah...there ''Kssship''

Oh boy, those bloody over motivated newcomers.
They are all so eager to get a kill that they even shoot at planes that are already doomed for sure instead of firing their ammo into a real target. I guess I have to have a long and loud talk with some of the AI (Annoying Interference) pilots during the next briefing. Claiming the kills of the senior members as their own is definitely not sportsman like.

18th July 1940

Luftwaffe Target: None - Fighter Sweep

Less activity centred on attacks on shipping but at 0930 hours a force of some 30 aircraft assembled behind Calais and flew towards Deal. An attack on a convoy did not develop. One fighter squadron was operating off Deal and two other squadrons were patrolling nearby as reserves. Interception took place under cloudy conditions. No enemy aircraft was brought down, but a Spitfire of No. 610 Squadron is missing. Enemy aircraft bombed a coastguard station and sank the East Goodwin Light Vessel.

CASUALTIES:
  • Enemy: Fighters - nil; Bombers - 1 confirmed, 2 unconfirmed.
  • Own: 3 Spitfires (from Nos. 152, 609 and 610 Squadons).

Green One - 152 Squadron - RAF Warmwell

Quiet flight, rest of squadron engaged 109s, however I did not see contacts and my requests for bearings were unanswered. RTB'd and crashed on landing.

Crashed on landing

Pilots Notes:
I really wish I could see like the rest of the squadron...

Maybe set up TS3 as well? Might try it out sometime.
