radar Wolfpack Tournament

I'm designing a tournament for Wolfpack. Open to ideas, so your input matters and will shape the series.

Right now we will need a few things added to the game:
  • Scoring data sent to the tournament database
  • Timer or time limit that can be set
  • Codeword that can be entered into the game to legitimize it as a tournament game
  • Codeword would also lock the game into a specified sea state/time of day/month-year/difficulty (convoy size)

Structure

Games would be limited to 3 hours in duration; this would keep viewing and verification manageable. Maybe 2 hours would be better, adding a sense of urgency and preventing games from going on all day with a super patient crew who will spend many hours getting into position.

One member of each crew in a game (Battle Reporter) would be required to live stream the game and record it for review.

Game monitors would be designated to check on the streams.

To enter, a crew would need to register.
Registered crews will be set with Subsim name, Steam name, email and region.
There would be an entry fee for each crew.
The minimum crew size would be 3.
Each game would require two manned U-boats.
The first round would take place on a Friday - Saturday weekend, each crew would play one mission.
Scoring would based on total tonnage in the mission.
The top 50% of crews would advance to the next round.
Final weekend would consist of 6~8 crews.

Prizes (cash award, swag, a Wolfpack trophy) for the top 3 winning crews.

Count me in - that's a fantastic idea.

But please remember about timezones!

1.the Scoring System would there be additional points awarded to crews that attack the convoy get tonnage and remain undetected in the mission

2.Attacking Convoy getting tonage and surving the Mission a bonus point awarded or tonage deduction for a KIA

3. firing all your torpedos and getting hits with every one of your eels
in world war two American subs that did this it was known as a clean sweep
and the Submarine would return to base with a broom tied to the periscope signifying a clean sweep would there be bonus points awarded for crews who achieved this

just some idea's thrown into the mix

Back in the day when puss was a kitten and the WPL Wolfpack League played Multiplayer Missions called Stats we had battle reporters and if my memorie serves me corectly one of the Senior men of the WPL was Drago a computer wiz he designed the Scoring Table Programe do you have access to that scoring system software in the Subsim Vaults Onkel if not are you still in contact with Drago he may still have source data and able to tweak it for this tornament.

I like blackswan’s idea of having detection and torpedo hit % affect scores. I think it would also be great to have specific types of games such as “no TDC” or 3/4-player max, imposing some sort of limitation like that from time to time to keep it fresh and increase difficulty.

I have the formula that WPL used:

PHP Code:
((#successes/#patrols)*40.6)+(tonnage*.00035)+(#patrols*.9)+(kills*.8)

It doesn't take into affect torpedo accuracy, but that wasn't tracked back in the SH2/DC days.

Default Crew quality

You would have to have a ranked system so newbie crews don't get mixed with experts.

I suggest register for entry by U-Boat number/email of 'captain' and lock those two items in. Then rank them by number of patrols played/sinkings - or some such formula.

What counts is success with same crew over time(patrols).

That boat levels up and won't be matched with other boats that are too successful or too new in comparison.

Newbies vs newbies, graduating out of each level. Skilled crews have to earn their way up, starting as newbies. Best patrol results in each level compared to next level up to evaluate movement up the chain.

You could have a training patrol to pre-qualify for starting levels. Reserve Wolfpack play for a higher level or have a two-stage elevation per level.
