So.. What are the best hardcore tanks sims both modern and WW2 that are out there now ?

I've been looking at Steel Beasts Pro PE. Any other reccomendations ?

No. You look exactly at the right thing. It does not get more hardcore and professional on a PC than with SBP. Military customers do not pay withoiut reason those 18 thousand dollars per 10-machine license.

There is a new WWII tank sim coming, though. One need to wait in order to learn if it can match SBP or not. The difference between training tool and game probably will be needed to be taken literally.

SBP PE looks VERY promising. Are the buildings destructable too?
And what about modability and adding content ?

Moddability is limited to sound packs, skins for the vehicles and buildings, sky templates - not the simulation's content, no additonal vehicles (as long as the publisher does not develope them). But you get a top class mission editor, easy to use, but extremely flexible and competent: you can design missions that make you think you are battling a human mind (AI is heavily script dependant). You have to understand that SBP is no game release for the gaming market. They simply made their professional product that they sell to the military available to the interested public as well. Their main customer's demands, the military, decide what is included and what will be worked on, and what not. Seen that way, and looking at it's design, it is not a game, and it is no round "game package", no career mode, no animated menues, gimmicks, and such. Gamer's and modder's wishes do not play a role here.

I recommend to read my 20+ pages review where even your most detailed questions probably will find answere. To be found in the SBP ressources sticky-thread on top of the thread list, there is also some more reading listed.

I can assure you - and everyone here who knows the sim - that it "plays" smooth as silk. Despite some very few very minor "issues" it is an exceptionel quality-benchmark product with a support and ongoing developement that easily beats any other support effort you ever have seen with any other developer. In that regard they raised the standards very high for others to follow. Longevity is counted in as many years as the military is willing to use it, buy it, and order additional features. Community is not the biggest, but highly professionel, kind and active. Many pros there.

I'm waiting still for SB2. That will be the sim in my opinion.
