It's a couple of years old, for something different I painted the thing up.
Notice the SUBSIM hat as well

Very nice RDP, truly a unique case.

No hotter then it should. :rotfl:
Well, usually...

Thing flakes out if core gets above 82C. Temps are kept between 60c and 80C always thanks to custom fan profile (idles just below 60C at 40% fan > inaudible). Memory can overheat though; some games put ridiculous stress on mem, causing it to overheat before the core warms up (core heat causes fan to spin up). F.E.A.R. and Assassin's Creed have this problem. Setting fan cycle manually to 60% or 65% before starting the game fixes it.

*ps: I think my fan setup helps; all fans are exhaust, except 1 120mm front intake. Every bit of hot air is exhausted fast, keeping internal temps down.

Yea, my GPU had a heat issue. (my 200mm never worked, a cord was loose.) And my GPU Got Realy overheated. It almost locked up. Fan was full of dust.

The fan on this card is broken; if you leave it to it's own device's, the fan never goes above default. Had to use Rivatuner to create a custom-profile.

Don't know if it's a problem with 8800GTS 512 in general, or just the ones build by Gigabyte. Seems a BIOS issue.

Don't worry too much about card overheating; as it overheats, data goes corrupt > driver crashes > load on the GPU is gone and starts to cool down. My card crapped out several times, first because of the fan issue and at other times because of that memory issue with some games. Push reset and all is well. Sometimes windows can still recover after driver crash and then it's even better.

I guess the move to 65nm process for the new GTS cards helped keep heat down as well.

Yea, I have a 8800 gts 640 mb that is overclocked. It only locked up on me because of heat once.

But you got the fan fixed? 200mm, guess it's the top exhaust in your Antec 900? Shouldn't be too hard to fix a loose cable.

Such a monster should definitly help keep things cool.

New toy!

Lot more powerfull, but cost less than I paid for the 8800 at the time, and it's actually smaller.

Over time, I've actually replaced enough parts to build a whole other PC. All that's missing is a PSU, which I can take from the PC I currently use as my second.

Nice, and good to see it has 2 proper fans to keep it cool.

I rather have such design then those cased ones.

It should be the contrary.
Cards that have forced ventilation to push out of the case the hot air are much superior to those cards that instead just push the hot air around inside the case.
Forced ventilation in graphics cards has been one of the greatest innovations in the last years, its a pity to see it go away.

Yeah, thought about that for a while, but even the reference cooler with the blower fan and rear exhaust has an opening at the front that vents hot air into the case. The sink on this one is simply far superior (covers the VRMs) and it's quiet, something much appreciated.

It comes with a custom PCB, custom cooler, high-grade parts and factory overclock. All for the same price you'd pay for a reference design. Gotta love Gigabyte.

Oh and I already tested to see if it would overclock. 715> 800 core and 1800> 2000 memory no problem, stock voltage. So it can match all those factory "ultra-clocked" toys companies put out.

Theoretically I agree... but unfortunately the fan is poorly designed. Right now I'm running a 5970 with that fan and temps are some 60 degree, just for watching subsim.com
Running Silent Hunter shows temps between 85 and 90 degree. Which is not healthy in my book...

Tomorrow it'll be replaced with a fan similar to the GigaByte above and I'll bet temps will drop some 20-30 degree...

The card before this one was a Gigabyte HD5870 with same fanset as Arclights and that never ran above 55 degree running Silent Hunter with max settings.
ATI/AMD could learn a thing or two reg. cooling from Gigabyte!
