Default I'm Back

After an absence of some years. The reason? Long story- I had the CD version of the game and moved to Australia some twelve years ago and finally have retrieved all my stuff from storage and Lo and behold- I found my old copy.

The steam version didn't work well with the mods.

A couple of questions:

Is RFB still a thing?

What's the Mod of the Moment for overhauls?

Thanks, folks for any replies.

Yes, RFB is still available, and is at v2.1, if you get the patch for it. It has not been developed further is a while, but it is still a fine choice, as is TMO 2.5. You can put RSRDC on top of either, if so desired, just be certain to use the correct version of RSRDC. Bubblehead1980 borrowed from FotRSU and other mods and updated TMO to his "flavor" variety, and then there is Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate (FotRSU), which is a re-working of the AOTD_MadMax team's Fall Of The Rising Sun (FOTRS) mod, combining all of his various versions into one, compatible with SH4 v1.5. In fact, all of the above mods require v1.5 of SH4, which has the U-Boat Missions Add-On, and is also known as "Gold Edition".

The big thing to remember about the game and JSGME is that Windows 'protects' the Program Files folders, so you do not want to allow the default install path of either the disk, or the Steam version, but rather, make your own folder and install the game there. In other words, when the game install dialog gets to asking, change the "C:\Program Files (x86) \Ubisoft \Silent Hunter..." or "C:\Program Files (x86) \Steam...", you want to change that to something like "C:\Games \Ubisoft..." or "C:\Games \Steam..." something that you make. Windows will let you mod in peace in a root folder you make. Do not install directly to the root folder of the drive...

Thank you for the tips- I managed to remember that issue with the installation; I installed SH4 to its own folder.
