Yeah, I'm going to take a look at the settings in DCG I think, I'm pretty sure Platinum Fox did not just consist of Fw-190s...

Thanks for the info.
My name here is the perfect length. Plus I can't remember how to change it. :P

I should check here more often. Is it still Thursdays flight night? And which pack are you guys on?

Nope, but JG5 did mainly use 109's and 190's and was the Fighterwing most active in the Murmansk area during 1942 before moving to southern Norway Late 42 early 43 due increased threat by the Allied Airforces in the area.

@Zirran: So far the flights are on wednesday and thursday night.

Yeah, I just noticed that...no wonder the Murmansk drive failed.

Well, yes, that doesn't help. But well, it sparked the best bromance of all time:

Mission 8
Protect Salmijarvi airfield

Result:
Took off as normal, and patrolled the area. Widened patrol area on hearing engagement between Finnish and Russian forces. Finally engaged contacts in grid AM16, Pe-3s with I-16 escorts. Oberon blacked out whilst turning to evade what he thought was a contact on his tail (but it turned out to be on Hunters) and then crashed into the ground, Raptor was killed instantly with a head on pass by an I-16, Arclight was shot down and Hunter crashed into the Oleg trees.

Hunter diving on a Peshka

Before half of his friends return the favour

Mission 9
The same as mission 8 but with more weird waypoints

Outcome

Normal take-off and rapid ascent to 6000m, encountered a Pluskat moment when several flights of Soviet aircraft appeared out of a cloud in front of us. Oberon attacked a Pe-2 but got an I-16 on his tail and then got his tail removed. Arclight managed to RTB safely only to get strafed on the ground, Raptor got his aircraft set on fire by a Peshkas rear gunner, and Hunter managed to hunt down and kill a particularly slippery Peshka before RTBing.

Attempting to keep up with Hunter

Advancing into the sun...yet again...before we turned and then ran straight into the Russian airforce

Hunter nails his Peshka after a tight weaving battle

Are you implying that we have been any less than completely successful in the destruction of the evil communist hordes?

We are, of course. When we manage to kill something and/or actually make it back in one piece.

Which at this point seems to be the exception.

Ende.
