but the manual mode of the TDC is my achilles heel, I recognize it

if the TDC is your Achilles heel, simply maneuver your Trojan Horse vessel

within 1000 yards and aim the boat with the scope zero'd; firing as U bear. Getting inside the convoy, Silent Otto style is the best position for this tactic & impairs escorts from getting on to you swiftly. Loose all 'eels'; sneak away from the convoy at depth; reload and resurface when the convoy has moved on...
