Default Type XI U-Cruiser for SH4 ATO (No Longer being developed)

Hello all,

This mod is an update from my original type VIII U-cruiser, and it is now an attempt to model the type XI U-boat as accurately as possible given the engine limitations of SH4. I figured it was deserving of a new thread, given the increased scope and design of the project.

Here are some screenies of what has been done so far:

What still needs to be done:

Modeling the twin 127mm (5inch) turrets

relocating effects (bow wake, underwater bubbles and caustics, etc)

Increasing AA armament

Modelling crew slots properly

Once those things are done, it will just be a question of ironing out some minor bugs, and the boat will be good to go!

I expect a public release by the end of this week if all goes well, and by the end of next week if something comes up/a wrench is thrown in the mod. But hopefully, those things won't happen.

Sadly, it will not be possible to model an Arado scout plane, given the stock game limitations, and the boat will also be lacking 1 AA gun that the real boat would have had. These (especially the scout plane) are mostly hard-coded engine limitations.

Other than those 2 limitations though, it should be fairly accurate to the real thing (or at least, what is known about it - information on the Type XI boats is hard to come by)

Looking great! As a fan of the biggest, clumsy, better armed subs till WW2 (Argonaut and Narwhal class) I can see the beauty in this one. Keep the good job!

Will you be reusing the Type IX interior or are you planning modifications there also? I know this one was never constructed so we have no idea how it was supposed to look like, but just asking.

I was planning on reusing the type IXD2 interior, as it seems to fit well enough.

Also, I honestly lack the skills to make an entirely new 3d object, so everything you see on the model is already a part in game, just resized in various ways. Most of the Hull for example is just a IXD2, just re-scaled.

Currently, I am working on the 127mm turrets, as the texture on them doesn't seem to be modelling properly.

Default more screenshots -work is proceeding

Here are a few more screenshots. Got the turrets working, but the texture is too bright and light when compared to the boat's hull.

You can man the fore one!

I may have to try this mod when it comes out. I love OP guns etc.

Default development ceased

Well all,

Developing this mod simply has taken too much of my real-life time, and I don't really have the time to work on it further. I'm not going to be developing this sub any longer. However, I am releasing the files I have done so far here on subsim, and anyone is free to take up the development of the mod.

I don't like letting people down like this, but I simply don't have the time to keep working on this mod - I've put roughly 60 hours of my time into it so far, and I can't afford to spend any more.

The files can be found here
