Default How exactly do I install FOTRSU?

Hey everyone. How exactly do I install FOTSRU? Do I need JSGME? Do I just create a mods folder and extract in there? Also, do I need the UBoat expansion?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Having just gone through this myself, the initial documentation is a bit verbose and at times less clear. Here's the simple method:

1. Put in a fresh install of SH4. If using steam, this will need U-Boat missions. Either way, the goal is to be at v 1.5. (the steam base game is 1.3 without U-boat, so will not work).

2. Delete the save folders. They will be in "documents > SH4 > data > cfg"

3. Extract the FOTRSU zip to a MODS folder "Silent Hunter Wolves of The Pacific > MODS." You will have to create the MODS folder. You should now have a folder called "100_FallOfTheRisingSun_UltimateEdition" inside of MODS.

4. Copy-Paste JSGME into the basic game folder "Silent Hunter Wolves of The Pacific". It should ask you if you want to use "MODS" as the place it finds mods. Yes, you do.

5. Activate JSGME in the game folder; you should FOTRSU in the list of possible mods on the left side. Activate it by selecting it and using one of the right pointing arrows. It should, after activation, be on the right side. The game is now running FOTRSU. Hooray!

6. But wait! There's More! FOTRSU chomps memory like a beast but your computer doesn't want to let it. Inside the mod is a LargeAppAware application. Run it.

Now that it's running, select the SH4 executable - that's the actual app, not the folder - in the first line (you'll have to browse, but by this time you know where your folders are). Check the little box that says you want that file to be treated as a large app. Apply.

7. Realize you don't know how a position keeper works and botch an attack on a carrier task force. This step is optional.

One thing he forgot to tell you is the SH4 Executable is Read Only so right click it go to properties and uncheck the Read Only option so LAA can write to it.

If you guys read the documentation on either the first and other following postings in the FotRSU release thread, or on the mod's actual download page, or in the Support folder of the mod after you unzip it, you will find everything from "short-and-to-the-point", to "verbosity reigning to the point of shear boredom" for install instructions and various options.

Somehow, I'm not seeing the LargeAppAware application inside the mod. Where exactly is it?

edit> Never mind. Found the Large Address Aware.exe elsewhere.

Some effort is required of the user to find and read about the mod. On page one, first posting of the Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate, full release thread, you will find "Spoiler" tags that can be clicked on, specifically there is a "Installation Pointers", as well as "Quickie Activation", that discuss the set-up necessary and activation of the mod. Problem number one that you have is the statement of your game's path of "C Programs Filesx86 Steam Steam apps Common SH4". You cannot be in the Program Files folders. With the Steam game, refer to "Moving a Steam Installation and Games in the Steam Knowledgebase section. It is not easy to move the game Library folder, especially if you are on a laptop with on one viable hard drive install location. However, Windows will rollback any and all changes made inside of anything underneath the Program Files folders that is not done with a properly "signed" app. SH4 and JSGME are both apps from the XP days, and are not "signed" for use in anything after the introduction of Windows Vista. You must move the Steam Library folder, or create a new one. Most of us with a Steam installation will elect to create a Steam folder under a player-created "Games" folder, and do the install there. You then end up with "C:\Games \Steam \SteamApps \Common \Silent Hunter..."

Once you are in a valid location, you can then run JSGME and create a "MODS" folder underneath your new "Silent Hunter..." folder. Once that is accomplished, you can put the FotRSU mod archive (7-zip file) in there, unzip it with 7-zip, and then activate it with JSGME. You must then delete the Save folder, which defaults to "C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4" so that when you next run the modded SH4.exe file, a new copy of the folder is created, containing all the newly modded data, which is what the game will run off of.

If you have the mod already extracted, look in its Support folder, and find the files "Install Notes For SH4.pdf" for a step-by-step installation guide for SH4 for the disk version, which can be used to install the Steam version also, with some changes. There is also a "Activating Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate Edition.pdf" file for proper activation of the mod. Both are verbose, but detailed.

Anymore issues, let us know, but you are better off posting in the SH4 Mods section, as linked above.

PS: after posting here, I see you have the same question in the FotRSU thread. You post here has more detail.
