From the , it's a shame they don't make any more Crimson Skies games/books as it's one of my favourite alternate-history universes.

If the D.VIII didn't have catastrophic wing failures, was it the E.V? I do seem to remember something about the E.V being fixed and redesignated at the same time

Crimson skies must eb one of the best "fun" flight sims ever made.

I can still get it to work on XP. Loved the storyline and would have made a great film.

thanks Raptor1, i knew there is a game i would have liked to play
Really a shame there is no sequel, made for better PCs with a similar story, and playing fun !
Besides i'm interested in all kinds of airships, so ... looks like they developed the Akron/Macon idea of aircraft carriers right into our time
I like this more than this alternate "steampunk" history

That's the one. Hugo Junkers' plant was producing it at the time, however, and after several pilots died in July 1918, Fokker knew improvements had to be made. So, he got his hands on the design blueprints, made a few spar modifications, started producing them en masse at his plant in Schwerin, and bam: the Fokker D.VIII was born. Although the E.V is known as a Fokker, it's really not... strange? I know.

You know, the Fokker D.VII didn't even need the spars on the far ends of the wings, right? Fokker tested his plane several times without them (as the first variants were), but pilots did not trust his judgement, saying that he was just asking for a wing failure (even though Fokker had done twists, turns, and spins in it with no trouble whatsoever). So, to ease their minds, he added additional supports and it became Germany's new standard plane for the late war. Pity it wasn't introduced earlier, like the D.VIII.

Red Baron 3D was arguably one of the first real online flight sim, actually
