That'd be great. Although if I ever plan to really get out online, I either need to get AF or have the current install a bit tweaked/re-done. I don't have many changes, but among them is the BaZT Korea high-res mesh which isn't compatible for playing with non-patched users.

Actually for all the 'tearing through', I've learned to be a very conservative pilot and not do anything crazy. My flying nowadays tends to be less seat-of-my-pants, but it's satisfying to have a good chance to bring the bird back after dodging the bad guys!

And nah, I'm not selling or un-selling any cockpits here. I love the reflections on it too. It's just 'old timers disease' - hard to change 'the office' that has grown on you over the years

Grah, my second mission did not go as well as I would've liked!

I went on a SEAD strike to the Wonsan area, which was expectably a hornet's nest. Cautious not to stir it up too much, I fired off my HARMs from safe distance, and not being able to get my wingies to use their weapons from afar, I decided to get out. I hit the wrong SAM site and thus had the mission counted as failure.

(SAM flying through the sky)

On the way home, I had a mouth-watering encounter with a flight of unescorted Tu-16s. All my weapons hit - but alas - the bombers were tough and none was taken down by MY missiles. Imagine my frustration when I even went in for a gun kill, and it was scored to someone else who popped the plane at the last moment with a missile

But the most frustrating thing came right at the end. With the start-of-campaign overload of targets, it's easy to let something slip by... So, one of my wingies was killed by a stupid MiG-19 while on his landing approach. The perpetrator was taken down by a nearby Patriot battery immediately thereafter

Flying any more, Stewker?

I've been back in the air. Re-started my campaign on 'ace' difficulty for a bit more challenge; my latest mission was the most successful in a while. Flew one of my usual SEAD sorties and ended up with every missile on my plane fired - and each scoring a kill. Killed two SA-5 radars and four old fighter planes (MiG-19s and their bretheren), and my wingies put down another four. Luck was on my side of anything!

Picture of my latest AIM-9 kill:

I like how indepth and utterly complicated it is, lol (an 800 page manual). Been playing for a couple nights and the only thing I can reliably do so far is, start the jet from a cold start (I think starting from a ramp start is essential for the immersion factor, switching all the toggles and etc really helps you feel like you are in a F-16), taxi, takeoff, fly around for a bit (flying seems easy but I am sure I suck still) and then crash and burn as I can't land yet. But I like it like that, I like the challenge. I've set a goal to get into one of these hard-ass virtual fighter wings that have check flights and stuff before you can join, by the end of the month.

Also have to get myself a HOTAS setup by then too. Because, now don't laugh, I am using a gamepad for flight (hat switch, aielron control and rudder control), I know, it sucks. I would use my dinosaur joystick but it requires a joystick port, which my newest computer doesn't have. Besides even if I were able to use it, I probably would upgrade anyways.

What I have now:

What I plan on buying:

But anyways on to why I am posting this little blurb, I am looking for some guys to fly around with and help me learn the ropes of the sim. You all seem to be a fun lot, and it appears that some of you fly this sim a bit, so let's go flying!
Don't buy that stick, buy the real one (Trust me, you want it - I bought it specifically for this sim):

I am in the Falcon series since Falcon 3.0 and it is the flight sim where I spent the most time offline and online. After going thru all the SP and E-falcon patches for Falcon 4, I recently switched to Falcon 4 AF and I like it very much. Just downloaded a couple days ago the desert terrain with Desert Storm campaigns, will be having a go at it shortly.

Definitly going to have to get a HOTAS setup or at least a joystick with alot of buttons though. I hate using the Keyboard for anything in the cockpit and having to use the mouse to click stuff in the 2d pit is to slow, at least in the A-A radar training mission it is. By the time you are able to lock on to a target (you can pause the sim, or "freeze" it and use the radar, but I want this to be realistic) using the mouse you are already dusted. Oh and that brings to mind, using the keyboard (or my gamepad's D-pad for that matter) to look around your pit is IMPOSSIBLE, it is impossible to dogfight this way as you can't keep track of where the bogies are while doing the other 1000 things. The Saitek comes with a hat switch that is hopefully going to be better, and I may splurge for a TrackIR, but I haven't decided yet.

I read a guy's post about this mission in another forum, and he had a good point in regards to the difficulty.
Paraphrased: The mission should have been against bombers or drones and not fighters coming at you hot and beginning the merge before you even have time to change views. It's your first mission against live targets. Why the heck should you be able to be shot down if it's a training mission, we'd kill off all our pilots before they got to the real show if that was RL. That mission doesn't even include the firing of weapons to return the favor!

But anyways not ranting against the game per say, just commenting.
Off to 20mm Cannon (Air-Air) training!

I'll post some screenies!
Hey Cpt. Stewker!

Yeah, the feeling is great...after being so elusive and frustrated by the various Radar Modes and Submodes. I am still batteling with them.

Last night I put the difficulty level up to Veteran, went into the Instant Action, pluged in my TM HotAS and let her rip!

Downed everything in sight, including mig 21 and a couple of 23's when flying on vapour. Finally had to ditch when the engine cut out with nothing to burn, and no missles left! Best sortie so far.

A great feeling...now possibly I may try the Campaigns with some confidence, but still have miles to go for Avionics and Radar.

This was done in SP4 by the way just for sentimental reasons. I'm gonna try dogfights in F4AF at Ace level tonight ...hehe

Wow.... now that's a flight stick / hotas combo I can only dream of. My TM combo is the younger brother of this one. I'm not buying any other trash and until I can afford 180 Pounds Sterling for my 'Pro' gear the one I got will have to do.

By the way, I 'm at that stage also, but have manged some dogfight sorties with some success (and a lot of crashes). As far as landing goes, try touch and go like for 4-5 times in a row - or until you run out of fumes.

As you come in to land, say 200-300 feet off the Run way, at 100 feet above ground level, swith to HUD only mode (press 1). The focus should be on your Flt Path Marker, your AOA and rate of climb/descent. All too often I would flare just seconds before touch down and scrape my nozzel across the tarmac! The engine does not like that at all.......

Now, all I do is stay level and line up the zero horizontal with the horizon and level the FPM at just inside the runway...this is where you need your landing gear to gently kiss the tarmac . Easier said than done..... and I still crash but it's happening less frequently and touch & go gives you added confidence.

Hope this helps. Also need more help myself with Avionics/Radar (AA/AG).

Happy flying

Hi Corsair!

Nice to meet you here! I just joined this forum recently. I've been away from F4 since 2001/2. Now looking for wingmen to do formation flying and wotnots with.

Have F4AF but no clue how to go online in Falcon4. Have intalled various Theatres but DS seems the most difficult and will not appear in the list .

It seems when I added 3-4 Theaters I may have messed up something so had to reinstall F4AF, and just left the default ones.

By the way I just patched SP4, BMS2 with new cockpits and Toms Free HiTile Terrain mods and they work great!

Anyone interested in taking on a new rookie as a wingman?

Happy Flying

PMC theaters come with executable installer, in fact when you have F4AF installed alone (no "old" Falcon 4), if I'm correct the installer wont even ask other than to accept EULA and then it installs.

If you cant find the theater after the install is completed... well dunno, never heard of such problem from anyone.

But to get the basics right...
Did you have F4AF only or older F4 also installed?
What version of the theater(s) are you trying to install?

Oh, right.

Still beats the usual single-post necromancy...
