Default Early war, start in the Phillipenes, where do I complete my cruise?

Playing early war, start on 8 Dec 1941 from Manila. It quickly falls and is removed as a base. Radio message says for everyone to recover to Freemantle. However, only postpone and refit are the option when I get there. Where am I supposed to finish my cruise?

From memory a new base (tilted anchor on the map) opens up in Surabaya at some point in January, but there is a few days (can't remember how many) where there is no home base to go to during that time period.

Default Depends on what boat type you have.

What type of boat are you driving?

Some of the boats based out of Cavite were rebased to Surabaya and then to Freemantle. Others were sent to Surabaya then Brisbane.

You can always tell by looking at the nav map though. I'm running FotRSU and it shows a vertical anchor at each base where you can refit and a slanted anchor at your home base (The only place to end a patrol)

I'm not sure what the stock game uses but I'm pretty sure its something similar. Look for the base that's different than the others.

what the other gentlemen have stated above is true.
in addition to that, there is a feature within SH4 that sometimes delays the activation of a sub driver's new base by a day or so. this delay does not happen in every career but when it does happen it is very disconcerting.

when you are in this situation, your best bet is to find a safe haven near your expected new base and wait for 24-48 hours(of game time). jack up the TC to 1024 and go get a pepsi or a cup of coffee or a glass of water and the new base will appear.

btw, the logo denoting your home base is known as a fouled anchor. it is a revered symbol of the United States Navy. you can read more about it here.

good luck! and good hunting.

Not JUST the United States Navy! C.S Forester has Hornblower annoyed by it as being an inappropriate symbol for the British Navy as well.

It's also a part of the Marine Corps emblem.

I actually debated calling the icon a fouled anchor in my post but ended up calling it a slanted anchor. It's pretty unclear that the anchor actually is fouled in the game's map icon and I thought that it might be clearer to use the term I did as the others are clearly vertical while that one is at a slant.
