Default Escorts any good ?

How are the escorts in this game ? I've found them a bunch of creampuffs in sh3 including the various super mods. Few passes, few depth charges, and then they leave. Never get to nervous from them. Within less than 1k meters during a submerged attack ? Close on hand during a surface attack ? No worries; proceed with attack. Mostly early-mid war, but still.
At least vs. the AOD ones who pound and pound for a looooong time and you're never sure you're going to evade them for sure, in similar circumstances as in sh3.
Appreciate any opinions.

My experience has been that, as long as you are smart about staying stealthy, they have trouble finding you after an attack. But if they force you down and are on you they are damned hard to shake.

I’m not as skilled or as experienced as derstosstrup, but in my experience , they’re easy to evade and not that scary or troublesome. Even on Hard mode, as it stands.

I’m not sure game difficulty does anything other than require more tonnage either.

One thing they are quite lethal at is sniping with deck guns. Don’t go toe to toe, but that’s common sense anyway.

Speaking of the escorts, how accurately are they modeled in relation to wartime gear?
If I recall correctly ASDIC had a cone of 10-40 degrees down from the bow and the rest was dead water?

Anecdotally I’d say it’s modelled very similarly.
