Default Mines CTD

Hi, I've enjoyed SH3 since it came out and I've came back to the game for about the 4th time; but one issue I've noticed is that the game does a CTD whenever there's a minefield of substantial size or density (35+ mines per square km). As if this wasn't annoying enough, it also means that some of the GWX-placed minefields turn various ports into no-go zones.

Is there any way to fix this or at least change the campaign file so that the minefields have a minimum density?)

I suppose I could use enemy submarines as an alturnative submerged threat, as even though they can't fire torpedos they can at least act as a sonobuoy assuming that their sonar circle (visible on the map) actually does something rather than just being a graphic.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the welcome,

Good news! I've used the map editor to change some of the problem areas so that the GWX mine fields are less dence, and I have confirmed that while the enemy submarines can't dive, they are able to use their hydrophones and report your location.

Do you have a 64-bit OS? If so, have you enabled a Large Address Aware utility on the SH3.exe file? That will allow the game to utilize more of the system RAM, if you have 4 gig or more.

Nope, what is that? I've installed the 4gb patch if that's what you mean.

Yes. The 4 gig patch flips some bits in the executable file's header, and lets Windows know that the game can address more than 2 gig of RAM. You do need a 64-bit OS and more than 4 gig of RAM for them to function correctly. Older versions of Windows (XP), you could use the Boot.ini to tell Windows to allow an enabled app to do that. The newer 64-bit OSes do it automatically, while a 'modern' 32-bit OS with 4 gig or more of RAM has to be "told" a different way to do it, which can get rather involved.
