I grew up on Commodore 64

I was around 4 years old watching my uncle play Silent Service. I was forever intrigued! I believe that is why I've always kept any naval game close to my heart.

Steam just recently put out a modern pc compatible version of Silent Hunter as well, Ive been having some great nostalgia trips playing it.

Silent Service, my first love! Played it back in 1985 or 86 on my Atari 800xl
That game had it all man, control room, gauges, damage screen, map, bridge, TDC/binoculars, different weather and visibilty, the entire Pacific Theater to patrol in... amazing they got all that inside of 200Kb!

YES!!! I played it on Nintendo!! I always say that SH1 started it all for me on PC, but SS with it's boxy graphics got me hooked on subbing at the very start!! I can't tell you how many hours I sat on my living room floor playing this game!

I had the original Silent Service on C64. It was my first home computer subsim experience but I got hooked on submarines when I used to play the old electro-mechanical coin op sub games in the arcades such as Sea Devil, U-Boat and Sea Raider etc.
Those were the ones where the machine had a periscope which you used to aim your torps at model ships sailing by inside. This was the days before video games. Great times!!

For those too young to remember these machines, here is a link to an article about one of them: http://www.pinrepair.com/arcade/seadevi.htm
