Default Target lock not working

Just today for some reason the lock to target stopped working.

When I get the target in the scope and lock on it, it locks for about 1-2 seconds then disengages by itself.
I tried a different sub and it was the same, tried a ship and that too didn't lock.

I am running the Monsun mod too by the way, any ideas please?

Col.

Or you are too far away, or sea state is too bad...

I wasn't too far away but now you mention it the sea was choppy, so that could be it, never thought of that, I'll check it out on a calm sea, thank you

I have had auto targeting lose lock in choppy seas and I usually bring the boat up to 50-55 ft to get above it.

I have also had it occasionally lose lock in calm seas with a normal setup, so there may be another gremlin...
I "cured" the problem by reengaging the target then watch it lose lock again in a couple of seconds... and again... and again... I was able to get the final lock and launch but was a minor PITA...

Perhaps an Uber Kaleun can shed some light

As was already mentioned by Fifi above... target lock will be lost under rough seas & if the target in question is beyond a certain distance from your sub.

Not real sure of the exact minimum sea state for that to occur, but would figure it to be somewhere around light chop to moderate at the base... Know that with U boats ranges of around 4k meters or better will cause target lock loss intermittently... Don't know the range right off the top of My head for the U.S. boats but can figure I guess.. of about 3x's that for the U boats as a base figure roughly which would put it about 12k feet, or what the maximum range of NOT being able to start to get a lock is for either side.

Hope this helps.

I had a thought on this after reading the helpful comments.

I was wondering if it was possible to trick the sim by altering the height of the periscope, I don't mean make it go higher so it sticks up like a flag pole but the sim thinks it is higher thus eliminating the rough sea scenario, hope that makes sense.

what you suggest is not only entirely possible, some kaleuns have been very successful doing exactly what you suggested.

"Plane up" a bit with the sub's depth. If PD is 15 meters, set the depth to 13. Your turm might expose in the valleys between wave swells, but your scope is above the wave peaks.
