Well done lare, if you can remain undedected its not too difficult to can 'ol bungo, the problem is staying undetected by him, he is a machine!

I managed to get within 1000 meters of pete, then he turned and charged up on me, but my first torpedo hit his depth charges rack and blowed the whole thing out. I was aiming for the bow, but his course change made the fish fly under the keel and explode by the motors.

I guess it is the best scenario imaginable, as the escort didnt made it to an attack run.

I sunk the Bungo Pete Akikaze for the first time tonight as well. It actually took a while to find him. I first came across a medium freighter in the Bungo Straits and sank him with two fish. I patrolled for a full day heading north, but still no sign of Pete. Heading back south out of the narrowest section, I spotted a large tanker, and sank him with 4 stern shots (getting liberaly with my torpedoes). I headed back north after that and, in the early hours of the morning, spotted the Akikaze coming out of the bay and heading towards the last sinking. I was at periscope depth, and he steamed right past me at about 4000 yeards. I started heading south, and reaquired visual contact with him through the periscope. He was in a search pattern around where I sank the tanker. I closed to 1500 yards at 1 knot (I heard he has good ears). His search pattern was confounding any possible TDC solution, so I made by best estimate and let go all six bow tubes with a wide spread. All of the passed ahead of him as he turned towards me and increased speed. I guess that got his attention. I went to flank and hard left rudder to being my stern tubes to bear. He was constant helming as he closed, so I had enough time for this manouver. I let go all 4 stern tubes in a spready on either side of an assumed base 0 angle on the bow (all manual targetting). One fish actually caught him in the stern with a load explosion. He kept coming on and I dove and evaded. He sank shortly thereafter, going down stern first.

May I ask what or who this Bungo Pete Akikaze is? I never heard of him/it. I once heard of a rumor of a ghost frigate in SH4, but I never saw it...yet. I realy
have no clue if I should be posting here or not. Anyway, I take that it (?) is very dangerous.

in the movie "run silent run deep" they portrayed him as sort of a japanese version of the red barron because he sinks any sub that goes near him, if you google bungo pete WWII you will find more info.

Run Silent, Run Deep (United Artists, 1958) A submarine skipper (Clark Gable) single-mindedly pursues the notorious Japanese destroyer "Bungo Pete," which sank his previous boat. This adaptation of the best-selling novel by former sub commander Ned Beach also stars Burt Lancaster and Don Rickles.

Where is this "Bungo Straits"? Or is that a hidden easter egg?

BTW, have any of you watched any of these?I think they are all pretty good. I have U-571, Down Periscope, Master and Commander, and The Hunt for Red October... so far. I hope I didn't go off topic.

The Bungo Straites, or Bungo Channel, is the body of water which seperates Kyushu and Shikoku, Japan. It is not an Easter Egg, but an actual place. As stated above, Bungo Pete was the name given to a certain "expert" destroyer which was featured in the movie Run Silent, Run Deep (great flick BTW). A mod was made based on this destroyer for the game which I believe is included in the TMO Mod. If you patrol this body of water, and you're useing TMO, you run the risk of running into this subkiller. Hope that helps !

You'll see it on the map as 'Bungo Suido'.

I know that this is a bit late for this post, but here it goes:

Thank you guys for your help. That Bungo Pete sounds very nasty! I will see if I can find him, but so far, no luck.
