I've tried FotRSU, RFB, GFO and just recently, Dark Waters and TMO w/RSRD. FotRSU is my fall back. The overall game play is fun! With the 'More Traffic' mod, it's rich hunting ground. RFB and GFO didn't last long. There were some elements I liked, but not enough to make them 'keepers'.

Repeating what was said here, a great deal depends on personal preference. FotRSU is much more classic with it's campaign where performance earns you medals, rank and quite often a newer boat. RFB wants to keep you in the same boat and grow your crew in experience, which is a nice way to play. TMO appears to have the same mind set. RSRD is very similar to FotRSU campaign wise. They are both well thought out. I haven't dove too deep into TMO to see how the campaign develops over time.

My one issue with FotRSU is the lack of mods. TMO has many more mods available. One mod that I've found that was a game changer was the Optical Targeting Correction by Capn Scurvy. I also have found the ASW in TMO is much more aggressive and intelligent than any other mods I've played. I do have some gripes with TMO. Having preset options is frustrating. You have to start at Hard difficulty for manual torpedo control.

Graphically, TMO and FotRSU are on par with each other. TMO has some environmental improvements that are nice. On the other hand, FotRSU has beautiful sky. A horse a piece. Both are great mods and I’ll continue to play both for their individual differences.

My opinions are free and worth every penny!

Next full release will have harder AI escorts. We don't have to do a thing to the airplanes, unless you want more of those too ( )... TMO / RSRDC is really nice, don't get me wrong, but keep a history book by your side, and you won't miss much. FotRSU will not play the same way twice across a dozen tries.

I'm having absolutely zero luck in finding this Extras / AddInModsPack folder anywhere. (not in the FOTRS .rar file nor searching the Downloads area of this forum. Could you please be a bit more detailed. I've played a couple of careers with FOTRS (standard) and had absolutely NO duds even though they are selected as "true" in the .cfg files

>edit Never Mind... I found it in the v1.24 version download. I was looking in the v1.3 download

What you had there was the "original" Fall of the Rising Sun (FOTRS) from the AOTD_MadMax team. That is what Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate Edition (FotRSU) is based upon. In either case, there is a "dud" setting in Gameplay Settings on the Main Menu, Options choice, which governs the Single (Quick) Missions, Multi Player, Quick Patrol and Submarine School. For a career, you have to click on the radio console to the left when in the Captain's Office prior to getting on your boat, and change the setting in there for each career you have running.

Thanks for the reply and nice to know about the office radio settings. I've since switched to the 1.24 version right after I made the above post and found the added files in that version. I posted about Users/Name/Documents/SH4 corruption issues for v1.24 in the main FOTRS MOD thread since then.
