Default Trying to fix SV radar...can't find it in files. Any idea?

A problem that has bugged me for a long time in SH and TMO is the late war air search SV radar. This radar picks up surface contacts. We have an SJ for that, SV is air search. I know the fix is simple, adjusting the min height. However, can't tell which one in the sensors_sub_US.sim is the SV? They are not labeled(drives me crazy lol) so difficult to tell. Can guess but dont want to mess with other radars, they work fine. Anyone know which one is the SV? This is for TMO 2.5

I have noticed that the .dat file lists the names of the equipment. Each piece of equipment has an ID alphanumeric. That ID is the parent ID to the items in the .sim, .zon, etc. So you need to cross reference the ID from the Dat file then find that ID in the Sim file and it should be the right one.

Looked it over, it just says radar, does not specify which type or I am missing something...

This is how it works with vanilla game. Don't have TMO installed, but should be similar.

1.-Try to visually identify the sensor in the .dat file with S3D.

2.-Open the sensor nodes.

3.-There should be something called "whateversensorname_antena" or "whateversensorname_head". Might change in TMO, but you get the idea.

4.-This is the object whose ID you have to look for in the .sim file as parent ID.

Not 100% sure, but I think the SV radar is labeled as NSS_IFF_1 or 2. Those are the loop antennas, which I think are the SV radars.

It could also be the NSS_LoopAntenna. I think one is for radio messages, and the other is the SV radar.

Stock and TMO lists the SV as SS in the dat file.

Edit: The SV was also intended to detect aircraft and ships. The primary intent to detect low flying aircraft if memory serves.

Thanks! Yes, problem is it detects ships and cant switch it off in tmo when need to use time compression it can be a pain.

That was one reason we elected to make the SD antennae an "On / Off" instead of "Rise / Lower" in FotRSU... Helps immensely in that regard. My mind is blank on the details, but just a change in the Commands.cfg - One problem with this technique though, is that you lose the ability to be at periscope depth and raise the SD above the water and "see" planes like that... and if memory serves (abysmal failure at times), you do have to adjust "Radar Depth" on a few of the subs afterwards (and lose "Decks Awash"), because they otherwise sit too low in the water to get the SD above the "surface"...

Trying to finally address this problem. Where is file located? I figured it'd be in USSubparts. Do not see an SS radar..

Look in Data / Library / USSubParts / Sensors_Sub.dat & sim files. The main listing for the radar in the dat file is the 80:Node, but if you "Search" on its Id: in the sim file, you get an obj_extensible, listed as a snorkel, which is the mast the radar rides on. So use 85:Node - NSS_SS_Head, and search on its Id:0x2c40b16206e69cb2 in the sim file, and you'll get 64:SensorData in the sim, of which you of course edit the 65 listing for your settings. I don't remember which of the "height" settings you'd noodle with though, to avoid "painting" the surface vessels...
