Default New to SH5, steam or not, windows 10?

Hi all,

Coming over from SH3, love the game, but getting too frustrated with career save game corrupstions and other bugs.

So wondering how difficult it is to get it up and running.
1) I was gonna buy on steam, but read it can't be modded without converting?
2) If not steam, where to buy?
3) Windows 10 issues? Is it expected for everyone?
4) I saw there's a main mod, I know there's tons like SH3, but is that one at least good enough to go to get started?

Any other issues I should look for? Heard alot of buggy issues with SH5?

Thx. Any help appreciated.

1. Yes, you can buy it on steam. It's kind of round about route to download it. Copy the game key in steam, then go to Ubisoft and download using the Ubiplay down loader. Paste the game key in Ubiplay. It will end up in were ever you have your steam directory. MAKE SURE you DO NOT use the \Program Files (x86) directory.

2. I don't know if there are unused DVD's around. Used ones can be problematic due to licensing. You can buy directly from Ubsoft. I have other steam games, that's why I went that route.

3. Go to Burbster's sticky in this directory for Win 10 stuff. All your questions will be answered......really!

4. I chose The Wolves of Steel megamod. I'm happy as a clam!! It has a steam converter as part of the install. SH5 out of the box is a mess! You have to mod it our you won't want to play. Sober's mods are very popular too.

BTW...welcome aboard!!

Thx for the response! k so sounds like no issues with steam version? Is one better than the other? Steam vs uplay? For modding i mean or any other bugs?

Looked at the windows 10 and seems like its hit or miss whether i will have problems or not. Guess i'll find out. Not sure i'm too into messing with drivers, used to in my old days. Not so much anymore.

Yup wolves of steel are on my list! Figure start with that.

Default Steam user here.

I just got this game, and was lucky enough to read in one of the reviews of the game on Steam to do the things Macgregor suggests. Went for TWoS immediately as I remembered what SH3 was vanilla and how much GWX made a difference. After 7 years away from sub sims, to quote Das Boot, it's great to feel the sea again.
