Default BoB II - Campaign Choice

Just getting back into BoB II.

What is your choice of Campaign? Overall Commander or Single Player.

The overall campaign does appeal to me, however, it can be all be a little too much in micro-management. However, I do like the idea of 'jumping' in when I feel like it.

The single player campaign (added back in by the 2.07 patch), this just assigns me to a squadron/airfield and I partake in any combat situation that the squadron gets assigned to. This is the fast & furious option and is still dynamic, in that your actions will affect your squadron and the possible outcome of the war etc.......

I'm torn as to which way to play.

Thoughts?

Since 2.07 I've started to play only the SP campaign. I've never gotten into the whole commander part, too much choices. :rotfl:

Tho, you have to be carefull on which squadron you choose in the SP as in some phases, some squadrons fly very few sorties. For example the 601. sees alot of action, but when I played in the 610 I waited 3 days with no sorties and went back to 601.

Commander is too big. I'm used to be pushed around in school,so it's no different in the skies.

So, for the Single Pilot Campaign, did you guy's edit the AI controller or just leave it at the default campaign setting?

Both RAF & Luftwaffe are set to Veteran. Have you tried any other settings?

Dowly, I imagine you may have set at least one of them to ACE. Is it hard?

Nope, I have them on veteran both. Never tried the ACE, but for what it takes to shake someone chasing you on VETERAN, I think the ACE might be superhuman.

:hmm:

Might drop the enemy AI a little. At least until I get used to BoB again.

I flew a couple of sorties last night with 'No damage' on and they were kicking my a$$.

I'm the opposite. I hardly ever actually flew in the game, I spent almost all the time in commander mode. And most of the time I play Luftwaffe, organize strikes, and then jump in as bomber gunner just to watch the results

The campaign for luftwaffe is pretty intense if you boost up the RAF skill level to veteran (vs medium for LW). I lost my last one to a corrupted savegame though

@CCIP, yeh I do that too... except for the planning part. I just hop on to a bomber and give the RAF lead fever.

I think that just highlights the whole "different strokes for different folks" thing, and good thing those strokes are all possible in this game

It's quickly becoming a favorite with me, soon as I have time I'll try to run an RAF campaign, maybe even for single pilot (but honestly, I enjoy the strategy part too much). The only reason why I've mostly played Luftwaffe and stuck to bombers is that performance wasn't so good on system(s) I've played on. I actually got it too run very well on my desktop now, but I had to give up a few options like horizon distance, multi-skinning and particle detail to make it more dogfight-friendly. I wish there were some good tweak guides around for this one... (Still one reason for me to like IL-2 I guess - I can run that one on perfect detail nowadays without so much as a cough from my rig)

I usually base myself out of Manston, Historically plenty of action to be had there right through the campaign. In fact Manston was the first to get hit on Alder Tag IIRC.

Manston is also usually about the first base I bomb out of action, for good, when commanding the LW

Guys, I've been reading these BOB II threads for awhile now and have decided to jump back into it. Where do I go for all the patches and updates. Somehow I've lost track of the site.

Sorry to send this thread sideways.

2.07 is the latest patch. Includes all predecessors.

Get the multiskin pack too while there (fyi look for the small fix).

Thanks to Dowly.

Fly a Spitfire. That ME-109 can't hang with it in a turn.
