Default FFG vs Backfire

Does anyone have any strategy for how to kill a backfire with an FFG? I'm stuck on a mission called "N.Atlantic convoy" and this damned backfire shoots 3 vampires at me, I menage to take one down with an SM-2, the other 2 vampires hit me and I go down.

Bad news - this mission is crap. You haven't chances
Especially under RA. In vanilla you have small chances but still this mission is ridiculous.

I've managed to beat it. I've sent my two helos to deal with the submarines, and I've destroyed the vampires using SM-2s. After that the backfire backed off and my cargo ships crossed the goal line. "Mission accomplished"

I don't play with Helo quick launch but if you like this option i haven't problem with it :P

I play mostly MP sessions and Helo quick launch is not acceptable.

Btw in RA Perry uses SM-1 - its more accurate than SM-2
