How to get the white X and trail on attack map

I have never seen any white cross or white trail on the attack map. Is there a secret to get it to display?

I am hitting targets manually now, just took me 10 hours as most videos online say to hit the PK button first so of course everything I shot kept going behind the boats. Once I started refreshing that button with my new data all is good.

So the targeting seems to work now but I just get a black line on my attack map. If I get that to match the target I get hits.

Just curious why everyone else has a white cross and line on their attack map.

Running SH4, 1.5 with FOTRSU mod.
