Default New SH4 manual hits the scene

I've just put the final touches on a fairly comprehensive manual for this wonderful sim. While I don't think I added anything particularly new when it comes to game play, the guide does have a few features that some people might be interested in.

This includes:

— A thorough review of the 'Replay' feature

— Tips and tests if the game plays sluggishly

— How to get a full batch of torpedoes when doing a 'Refit'

— The 'trick' to bringing down troop carriers and destroyers

— The revelation of what I call 'Liner Lane', a hot spot for troop carriers

— Six saved scenarios for your steel carnage enjoyment. Three involve troop carriers, three involve warships. One of them features a Jap harbor with two heavy cruisers, two battleships and two aircraft carriers. Fun for the whole family!

— How to change single voice files, plus a download that changes every voice to the 'whispered' Silent Running voices. It also lowers the volume of some of the sound effects, like that loud obnoxious klaxon horn when it dives or surfaces.

— How to automatically store your saved games on a different partition in case your system melts down.

The manual is here. Any critiques, corrections or additions are welcome, of course, either here or the guide's contact form.

The sound files and the six 'steel carnage' scenarios are. So are the videos, given that. The actual text isn't, though, because it's a WordPress PHP database, not an HTML file. I could port the whole thing over to PDF if I thought there was a need, but the Web page should do.

With about 20 pics and 3 vids, it was obviously a kick to make. I spent a whole friggin' day just figuring out all the ins and outs of the 'Replay' routine. Given how much better its External Camera is than the normal one, I consider it a 'valuable' part of the game. Its close-up ability is very cool. Have you seen the enemy sailors saluting as their flattop sinks beneath them? Very touching. My thought when seeing such a heartwrenching moment is, "Next time I'll put an extra torp into her, just so they don't have to suffer as long." I'm just like that.

Glad you enjoyed,
Doc

At first glance, this looks very good and helpful for new players and a good review for more experienced players.
I suggest you make a PDF file of the text, bundle it with the downloaded files, 7z it and upload it to SubSim.
This work is too good to be lost.

It looks like this is all for the vanilla game w/o mods.

Excellent work, especially useful for people who come back periodically to the game.
