Default Returning Kaleun in need of set-up assistance!

Greetings, Subsim!

Veteran Kaleun reporting for duty!

I recently stumbled across a series of SH3 GWX patrols on YouTube, which I'm thoroughly enjoying watching, and it got me hankering after some serious SH3 action again...

I've just created a clean install of SH3 (from disc) and, before I run the app and go on patrol, I'd really appreciate some guidance on which mods to install.

My main priorities are:
  • Run GWX3 Gold (already downloaded but not yet installed), JSGME and trusty old SH3 Commander
  • Play in the highest resolution possible for my PC. My rig is about 5 yrs old:
    • Max screen res is 1680x1050, but I can also use:
      • 1600x1024
      • 1600x900
      • 1366x768
      • 1360x768
      • 1280x1024
      • 1280x960
      • 1280x800
      • 1280x768
      • 1280x720
      • and lower...
    • Gfx card is Nvidia 2GB 750Ti
    • OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    • RAM: 8GB
    • CPU: Intel i5-4690K 3.5GHz
  • Anything which improves graphics, i.e. textures, effects, animations
  • Anything else which improve overall immersion, e.g. ship models, interface, sounds, atmosphere, enemy AI, etc.
The set-up used by the guy who posts those SH3 patrol videos looks great, so I'm thinking I'd like to run something similar. According to the info in his video description, he's running the following list of mods, most of which I've never heard of (or maybe just forgot about):
  • Grey Wolves Expansion
  • Sh3 Commander Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg
  • Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71
  • Rapt0r's Uniforms V2.0 [Grey]
  • Rapt0r's Uniforms V2.0 [Grey - All Leather] Patch
  • SHIV U-Boat Missions-Flaggen für SHIII
  • Rubini's Underwater dust&plancton v1
  • M.E.P v6
  • Optional - ShipVanishingHull for MEP v6
  • Optional - FSF for MEP v6 Radio Deutschland Radio England
  • TKSS18 German U-Boats Compilation No Eagle (Edited)
  • German U-Boats Compilation 2 (only VIIB & VIIC models by WISE)
  • 7b-1940-Weiss
  • U-Boot 7c-II
  • FixAllSubGWX
  • ARB WideGui 1920x1080 V3 (edited)
  • Adaptation for English & Deutsch
  • Moon_light_mod
  • Sh3_volumetric_clouds&fog_V2.2
  • Ricks_GWX_Rec_Man_Final
  • M.E.P v6- VisualSensors for GWX3
  • Supplement to V16B1 (old)
Of these mods, I'm only familiar with GWX and Thomsen's sound pack. Are all the others new mods, released in the last few years?

Thank you for any advice you can give me!

Hi Jeff - good to see you! Of course, I remember everyone from the good old days!

It's amazing that such an ancient game as SH3 still has a dedicated following.

I hope all is well with you?

Do you still go out on patrol?

Thanks for the welcome, Aktungbby & THEBERBSTER !

Haven't started playing the game yet, as I've been reading threads and trying to figure a few things out. Seems to be a lot of broken links to old threads, but I'm gradually finding the info I need.

Also, I found my archive of previously downloaded SH3 mods - in which I found a small mod of my own I started work on a few years ago and didn't finish. So I've been busy working on that, and now it's nearly finished! Just need to do some further research to ensure the details are correct.

Can anyone tell me how to check the dates and routes of all Allied convoys in the game? Do the various supermods modify these dates and routes?

Update: I found the convoy routes & dates info in the Campaign_RND.mis & Campaign_SCR.mis files, and discovered these files can be opened with a text editor to more easily find the convoy route waypoints and the start & end dates.

Use these files to also add or remove ships from convoys, aircraft, etc.

Thanks John. I could be tempted to make some tweaks there, but I'll probably leave it alone. I just needed the convoy routes and dates to use on something else.
