It is better in the ground attack role too. The air cooled radial engine can take more damage than the in line DB 600s of the 109 and it carries more bombs, guns and ammo. So what does make the 109 more versatile?
The 109 doesn't stall in every single ground attack run or turning dogfight

And don't give me all that "flown correctly" nonsense, the fact that you have to fly it in a certain way makes it less versatile

Of course, I'm a bomber pilot, so whatever I say might be nonsense

Almost every aircraft has to be "flown correctly", or in a certain way, to be effective. A Mustang in IL2 just isn't a turn-fighter, but correctly flown is almost untouchable against its Luftwaffe opponents. A 109 doesn't like high-speeds, you all know how the controls lock up from 400km/h upwards, while an FW-190 loves these kind of speeds. There just isn't any single aircraft good for every flying style. Oleg's representation of the Russian wonders(La-7 ftw ) is probably the closest thing.

At the end of the day I guess it comes down to comfort with flying styles, Raptor is a bomber man, I like the stable but slow fighters and others like the high speed interceptors.
I guess the Lolwaffles have all the bases covered then at least!

Don't forget that a plane like the P-51 started out as a ground attack aircraft because the powerplant gave poor performance at high altitudes, it was only until the British put the Rolls Royce Merlin in the P-51 was its true calling as a high altitude escort was realized. The FW-190 was orignally built with one purpose in mind which was a high speed fighter aircraft to out match anything the allies had at the time. I will say this in the catigories of speed and handling the P-51 and FW190 are an even match. If we do fly an all 190 mission again I'm sitting it out.

I must say that now I have the hang of the 190 I'll take it over a 109

Even at slow dogfighting speeds I can take on a Spit...I just found that you have to ease into a turn with the elevators....

If you yank even at high speed you get an accelerated stall.

190 for me given the choice.

I take what suits best for the role

for example if we have to intercept Bombers with escorts I take the FW190
for a Fightersweep or escort duty I would take a BF109.

I still like the 190 its just that I've been flying the 109 for too long. I tryed a few take-off and landing practices with the 190, the landing I don't have a problem with, its the take-off because the 190 is higher off the ground than the 109. I can take off with the external view on but I don't think Hunter will change that of just on pilot.

Wait until you reach 200 km/h (120 mph) and pull the stick slightly back. It will take off nicely.
