It is a multivolume self extracting .rar file, so...

Download all 6 parts of 2.370 to the same folder.
Then run part 1.

Code:
\SB Beta 560,495,685 File Folder
SBProPEB2_370.part1.exe 100,050,165 Application
SBProPEB2_370.part2.rar 100,000,000 WinRAR archive
SBProPEB2_370.part3.rar 100,000,000 WinRAR archive
SBProPEB2_370.part4.rar 100,000,000 WinRAR archive
SBProPEB2_370.part5.rar 100,000,000 WinRAR archive
SBProPEB2_370.part6.rar 60,445,520 WinRAR archive
\SB Beta 560,495,685 << Total Dir Size

Don'T waste too much time with the tutorials, and do not try all tanks simultaneously. Pick one, let's say the Leo2A5, and stick to that one for the time being, learn it inside out, becasue the handling of the tanks is not the issue in SBP, but tactics, and making use of terrain, reading the maps. This the tutorials cannot teach you so much, only expereince can. Load the scnearios inthe editor and chnage the main playing units to match the tank type you picked, play Abrams scenarios with the Leo2A5 that way. replay your missions in the AAR, and see where it went wrong, replay the mission several times until you got it right. That way you learn the sim much better than by just slaving yourself to the tutorials. "Platoon recon" is a very recommendable missions, for it is small, focusses on what SBP was created for: platoon and vehicle command, and is randomised. I must have played it 12-15 times now, and still it is a great training session, and one of my most preferred missions. Load it in the editor and change the playing tanks to the type you want to learn first.

Also, make sure you become competent in dealing with the editor, which means you can handle the planning tool as well. especially when you play scenarios with multiple playable units between which you hop around. If you think you can just start a mission and later set indivual moving paths individually, you do it wrong. Spend good preparation on your plan in advance. If it is a huge scenario and you spend one hour or more with just setting up codnitonaed routes and thining about conditions, then it is not necessarily a good pla, but your working method is the right one. Planning is part of it all. The better your preparation, the greater your chances later on.

I suggest to post your technical problem in the eSim general forum. Have you decompressed the files? If I remember correctly, you should not do that, but my memory may fool me there.

Skybird,
thank you for your reply and concern..I will try to do that, never knew I could edit an existing scenario, but now I will try do that.

For the Beta issue, I also tried to extract the other 5 win.rar files, but same story..not sure why it's not working. Anyway, I will go send the question on SBPro forum later.

I am very glad you are around, my main source of information and troubleshooting

"slow ahead"

Try with NOT unzipping them. I seem to remember that the installer looks for the zip files, not the unzipped content. but as I said before, I am not sure. Try it.

Yes, it is a multi-volume single compressed file.

Only the first file has any readable information, and running it unarchives the cab and installer, using the data contained in all 6 .rar files.

If it reports that volume 4 is missing for example, then try re-downloading that volume and start again.

It unpacks to:
Code:
567,545,294 File Folder
0x0409.ini 5,515 Configuration Settings
Autorun.inf 27 Setup Information
Data1.cab 546,704,997 WinRAR archive
instmsia.exe 1,708,856 Application
instmsiw.exe 1,822,520 Application
setup.exe 253,952 Application
Setup.ini 1,935 Configuration Settings
Steel Beasts Pro PE Beta.msi 17,047,492 Windows Installer Package
567,545,294 << Total Dir Size

I have been persistent in that sense..only worked on Leo2A5..I know the drill, beeing an ex-ambulance pilot, it was very important to know the important stuff blindfolded, learned how to manage two Pratt&Whitney turboprop turbines, 1050 hp..learned the emergency procedure drills in a Beechcraft Super King Air 200, so I think I have the possibilities to become a good tank commander too..but at times I doubt it

Anyway, I will try and do my best..

thanks for your advice

Me too, cos that isn't *supposed* to be one of the files

I'll try redownloading them here and see if it behaves.

Only thing that occurs to me is that windozy may be renaming your downloaded files for you. The archive will be expecting the file names to be as listed in the link above. (the folder name doesn't matter, though you may want a short-ish path to avoid issues with nested folders and long filenames.)

Ok, so far I have downloaded the first 2 volumes, and saved them to ..\desktop\Temp\SBProPEB2_370.part1.exe and ..\desktop\Temp\SBProPEB2_370.part2.rar

I have run the exe file, and it opens a dialogue box for a winrar self extracting archive.
You can select the directory for the installer to unpack to, and then clicking install begins the unpacking process.
SBProPEB2_370.part1.exe contains and extracts the following files:
instmsia.exe
Steel Beasts Pro PE Beta.msi
Setup.ini
Data1.cab (part of)

Once it has completed this it should notify that it is 'Extracting from SBProPEB2_370.part2.rar'
This (and the next few files only contain information that completes Data1.cab)..

At the completion of .part2.rar, I as expected received a pop-up error box:
Next Volume
Cannot find the next volume.
Insert disk with ..\Desktop\Temp\SBProPEB2_370.part3.rar
[OK][Cancel]

When the part 3 download completed, I click OK and it adds this to Data1.cab, popping up new error boxes if more of the parts are missing.

Which files did you download, and from which site?

I linked to the eSimGames.com download page, but it is possible that one of the mirrors has different/wrong files.

Could you either post a list of the 6 file names/sizes or a (cropped) screenshot of the folder contents?

Sure, no problem.

If it is quick and simple to fix, that would be good...
If we are still stumped, I could write the files to a CD?
