Ahoy there shipmates!

Yes, it was getting late in Moscow when I closed down my station just as the morning watch began, and it was already middle watch in Flensburg, Kassel, and East Saxon Land, where Cheapskate slings his hammock, when we were all signalling one another last night.

For those who may still not yet know, I got SHIII running last night, but try as I might, I could not get WAC to load.

I am pretty sure now that the root of the problem must be corrupted files. At first I had dismissed this idea, reasoning that if the files that I have downloaded had been corrupted, then they would not have unpacked themselves. However, not one hour ago I downloaded yet again the three WAC files from Caratio's site in order to start all over again, when I noticed that file .003 had a volume of 318 507KB, whereas danasan has stated that the volume of the third file should be 320 504 KB.

I was about to download file 3 yet again when I thought I should give it a try and see if the three files would unpack themselves: they did, the small file 3 volume notwithstanding.

I then transferred the unpacked WAC file into my mods folder, and tried to start the modded SHIII.

As usual, the loading bar stopped at 90% and after about 3 or 4 minutes there was a CTD.

Files .001 and .002 have the correct volume as stated by danasan. I shall try to download file .003 again. Hopefully, I shall receive a file with the correct volume.

Over and out.

Win7 & WAC 4.1 90% loading crash

(solution is written in the patch readme of WAC 4.1)

I had a similar problem.

My game did always crash after 90% loading when i tried to play the campaign wheras I had not any problems with the tutorial missions, I did use the Win7/Vista Patch and installed the mod correct. My win7 system has 4gb ram but i still had this issue.

After i googled a bit i did find a solution for this problem, at least i can play now the game hell even the campaign

Here is the solution which did help me:

After you have installed the mod (WAC 4.1) and patched the .exe with the WAC win7/Vista patch open your windows command console (cmd) in administration mode and write the following. After you get a successfull message in the console, restart your system.

bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2900

I did find some infos but those are german pages (maybe you can google translate it), you should google for this command line so you know what does it changes and why it helps to start the game.

http://www.pc-experience.de/wbb2/thr...threadid=24883

The default setting should be 2048 if Iam correct and you want to change it back:

Hope this will help anyone to start Silent Hunter with WAC 4.1 and windows7 if you still have problems. I did read all kind of forums also this one to find a fix and thought i will register and post my success, maybe it will help some here aswell.

Cya and thx a lot for this great mod !! GJ =)

Ehm, this info is in the readme already. And if you want to change it back the default setting should be to remove it:
Code:
bcedit /deletevalue increaseuserva
And, actually, the 4GB patch will work on XP also (if someone wants to try it). Instead of typing bcdedit you should add the /3GB switch to your boot entry in the boot.ini file: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...AE/PAEmem.mspx, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124810(EXCHG.65).aspx. Be warned that some drivers, especially video adapter drivers with onboard RAM, cannot run with the /3GB parameter set.

Yes, it was the video card driver in my case. I can confirm that.

Yeah i did find out it is written in the patch readme not in the mod readme, seems like i did miss that.
Hope the ones who cant run the game will find a different solution, thx again for the mod and the infos.

Hello

I am trying to get this mod to work as I keep getting CTD's either at 90% and when getting into a game for example.

I am running SH3 in Win XP SP3 and have 2.75 GB of RAM.

I am aware by looking at the threads that Vista and Win7 users sometimes get it fixed with the 4GB mem patch.

However I am on WinXP, so is there an fix for this for this?

I have it installed on a vanilla SH3 1.4b install

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
G

Hello G,

I have basically same specs, except a bit more memory and no problems at all, everything works perfectly. Try to download mod again, or use free FS auto start to shut down unnecessary windows apps to increase memory

Hope this helps,

Centaur

Thank you Tuddley3, a pleasure to be here. @ Brett25, regarding a mod to centralise your base you are at, only data for just that specific erea you are in, with WAC would be truly wonderful idea, with something like in GWX Gold Dead Sea optional mods, you could enable if you transfer there. It would I know probally take truly mountains of time and work though, if it was possible.

Kind regards,
AHS Centaur

This is my first post.

Firstly, Han thank you so much for such a wonderful mod, and the best feeling of actually being in the war as it happened, especially the Norway campaign I felt.

The lock system in Wilhemshaven, I’ve just departed and returned from is a pretty interesting idea too. They make more of a simulator, with having to manage some surroundings, not just the submarine is really good. One questions though please. Are they for harbour defence from enemy subs getting in, or for the rising and falling tides?

Greetings.
Centaur.

Greetings!

I do like the mod so far but I have a few issues I need clearing up:

How do I fire besides the red button, I only get a game pause when I hit enter and
What key opens the torp tube door?

I will keep playing for a whaile and try to see what else is missing for me, but great mod thus far!

If you want, you can download Setkeys and customize the keyboard to how you want it. I have it here -----> http://www.btsmods.com/index.php?topic=303.0

Also, welcome to the Subsim community, the nicest and most helpful people on earth (IMHO).
