Achtung Achtung!
Todays first mission was a standard air superiority mission near enemy lines, patrolling over an enemy airbase whose air defences the Stukas were to knock out. So when the Lolwaffles had flak thrown up at them they made a note to sort out the Stuka pilots when they got back...little did they realise just how deep the Stuka problem ran. Oberon spotted contacts on his three o clock, so the team turned to investigate. ![]() Turns out they were the second flight of 109s ![]() ![]() With the Peshka threat eliminated, the Lolwaffles Hunter, Kratos and Oberon returned to base, to discover a scene of carnage and betrayal. On approach cries of "Cease fire, you're shooting at a friendly!" began streaming over the radio, the Lolwaffles put it down to usual clumsy 'Mine Mine Mine' behaviour of their 109 AI companions...but no...it ran deeper than that... ![]() The Stukas were strafing...the Stukas... :hmm: Hunter landed, flipped over and bailed out straight away, not wanting to risk his life, Oberon landed and began to taxi, but then saw a Stuka passing overhead and chickened out, legging it away from the aircraft. These Soviet spies get everywhere!! Naturally, High Command was extremely embarrised by this whole affair and promoted Hunter and Oberon to cover it up, given them an Iron Cross 1st class and 2nd class respectively. Next mission was a transfer mission...pretty simple until you looked at the map and realised that the base that the Lolwaffles were ordered to transfer to was a) behind enemy lines and b) the airbase that shot at us last mission. Weary of a trap, Hunter contacted his 'sources', and sure enough the entire Soviet airforce had managed to drag their attention away from the nearby bridges long enough to muster a raiding mission on the airbase we were transferring to, with aircraft including the IL2. Their meal selected, the Lolwaffles took off, to the Soviet airfield trap. ![]() The Lolwaffles circled over the airfield for some time, Hunter descending to take on a P39 as they began their fighter sweep and Kratos chasing shadows, Oberon ignored the P39s but suddenly found himself with one on his tail, crying out a warning and evading, the attacking P39 soon found himself with Hunter and Kratos after him and after a long dogfight at low altitude, they took him down amongst the circling Ju88s and Schultz screaming Nicht Landen. ![]() Oberon was considering RTBing due to the amount of bullet holes in his cockpit but decided against it when Hunter announced the arrival of the IL2s, and he soon became glad he did. His attack run didn't go quite according to plan to begin with, forcing one IL2 out of formation with a quick MG burst and then looking for the escort. Oberon: Any sign of the escort? *Several tracer bursts flit past the cockpit* Oberon: Ignore that, I've answered my own question!! The escorting P40s overshot Oberon as he slowed down to IL2 speed and Hunter soon pounced on them, leaving Oberon to take care of the IL2s at his leisure. He took three down, while Hunter took a hit to the elevator and had to bail out over friendly lines, choosing not to risk bailing out near the Soviet airfield trap. Meanwhile Oberon discovered the epitamy of bad timing: ![]() IL2 number four lives to see another day! He returned to base, but on finals noticed the flak guns start up, it would appear that the P40s had heard about the bounty on Oberons head (now increased to two bottles of vodka for the Stalingrad Yak MURDERER!! ) and were following him home. He slammed himself down on the runway sharpish and ran for cover, joining Kratos who sadly, didn't think he'd gotten anything. The Lolwaffles hope to prove him wrong. |

Great report as usual, Oberon
but there are 2 mistakes : in the fist sortie we all got 1 PE-2 as there was a total of 3 Pe-2's flying about when we first spotted them and the IL2's Escorts where Yaks instead of P40's ![]() ![]() HunterICX

Aha! That's exactly where I got confused Kratos, when I saw that you got 200 points I thought you'd downed something while I wasn't looking
![]() Didn't realise the escorts were Yaks, although the fact that they followed me back to the airbase should have given it away ![]() ![]() And Jim... ![]() ![]() |
