Sh5 Had alot of possibilitys, could have been good, But all im seeing thats better in 5 than 3/4 is really the eye candy, The crew system IMO is alot worse, the game is quite badly optimised, and buggy as hell... I played it for a day and put it up cause I could have no fun... If I dived, I had to stay in the conning tower, or the game would keep going black screen and crash, and or be so laggy that I couldnt have fun...

I am mixed about the crew system. On the one hand I like not having to move men around manually or having to bother with that kind of micromanagement.

But on the other hand not only am I lukewarm towards some of the "special abilities" of the different men, I dislike that many of them require me running to them on the sub to activate them.

Yea I dont find having to leave the bridge, run down two ladders, work my way back to the engine room, find the engineer and then tell him to "Overcharge" the engines then run back to the ladders and work my way back on deck very immersive.

Overcharge Overcharge extreme speed awsome dude !

BTW I got my boat goin 25 knots last night.... woooooosh !!

Overcharge is one of the abilities that is given a Hotkey. They definitely made the most useful of the abilities easy to do with an F# button, but with so many buttons unused I was surprised that they didn't make more things binded to keys.

wow... if that was real I know alot of Uboat commanders would have been happy... that Is faster than the fleetboats. lol

anouther issue for me with 5, the key setup, Im use to the arrows to move, but I keep changeing my course. lol, and im use to useing D to dive, and A to level out. lol

so instead of diveing, in Freaking moveing to the right... which sometimes, dosent work out all to good. lol

I cant tell you how many times I have ordered full speed ahead by accident of course at the worst of times.... stupid arrow keys.

I might just mod them out.

One thing they did get right is to get rid of the 'enter' key to fire the torpedo.

Ya know I remember a time when everyone cried and cried to have a boat fully modeled with every compartment and to be able to freely walk though the whole thing. Now we have it, and not only can walk the entire interior we can also walk the entire deck.

And now folks are complaining about having it. I for one love it, and boy ya'll should know just how much work was involved in creating it. I cant even begin to tell. And I for one never liked teleporting from one place to another as we have had to do in the past.

Oh and BTW, you dont have to walk, you can run as well which I do often.

I must admit that having played all the SH series games over the years,
SHV is difficult to play being not used to the new command structure as
where the previous games had similar game controls which improved with each new edition.
I'm finding it so far when you are in a combat situation that giving instructions to your crew can be difficult & also finding where these
commands are in the game structure.
I suppose that adds to the realism of the game.
Some of the mod command keys have improved the running of the game,
but one I have difficulty with is the 'Silent Running' command when submerged.
I guess as I gain more experience with the game concept it will be easier to play....as they say practice makes perfect.

The problem with the commands is that as a captain you should be able to shout out and everyone hears it.
Not go to someone, face them and have to mouseclick your way there.
Why not have: middle mouse click that brings up a set of commands and then just click your way there.
