My X1950XT supports HDR+AA, I play Oblivion with both enabled.

Absolutely.
We are in the year 2007. Now we have DC CPUs and adequate Graphiccards even in the mainstream. AA and AF are one of the eye candy stuff that really pushes the visual quality in games a step forward. And now the Devs are beginning to degenerate this visual quality in a time, where 4xAA and 4xAF is no longer a privilege to those who have absolute highend hardware.

This is crazy.

But if SH4 doesn't have HDR then yes, please give us AA !!!
That's your opinion, and...

You almost make it sound as if HDR is a replacement for AA. It is something completely different than AA, and IMO, most certainly does not make up for a lack of AA. IMO, HDR is overhyped as well as being overdone in most(not all) of the games it's been implemented in. As Ark said, spotting some things in-game without AA can be a pita. Not good for a sim. Does HDR make up for that? Not in my book! I'm well aware though that different people like different books for various reasons.

Sad news indeed.
That is one hell of an oversight!!

First, SH3 only supports one resolution. Now they fixed that, and allow any res in SH4 but guess what, no bloody AA!!!

In 2007, AA is taken for granted. It's NOT something which can simply be omitted at ones leisure.

Why do the devs that make the most brilliant games always end up borking the simplest of features?

No, it won't, unfortunately.

They can't/won't modify the engine in a patch.

The "smoothing" option in GRAW was HARDLY a replacement for FSAA.

Welcome to the world of "engine limitations".

Yea, I was afraid of this. Opinions vary, but for me...AA is simply not optional. As much as I would LOVE to play SH4, I'll have to sit this one out.

Ubisoft is definately in decline as a publisher. This is the third major game in a row released by Ubi that doesn't support a standard graphics feature that has been around now for nearly 7 years. I didn't buy GRAW, but I would have...I didn't buy Rainbow 6: Las Vegas, but I would have, and I won't buy SH4, but I would have if these titles had simply supported FSAA. By my count, Ubisoft has lost almost $200 worth of guaranteed gross revenue from just me alone! Not good for Ubi...

It's amazing to me that this is such an issue in 2007! Hell FSAA is yesterday's news. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much to the point of simply dismissing Ubisoft as a serious publisher of quality titles. Everytime I see the Ubisoft logo, my first thought is "hmmm, looks fun...but it's Ubisoft, so no AA...NEXT PLEASE".

The good news is...now I don't have to sit around for the next 3 days in agony awaiting the release of SH4!

In film the script is everything. In computer games, gameplay is king! Look at the top 10 most-successful games of all time: Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Pac Man, etc. These are not titles known for there amazing graphics. Obviously, we've come a long way since then. Grand Theft Auto and the Battlefield series feature the latest graphical advances as well as amazing gameplay. However, these are games that have a huge user base and Deveklopers know that they'll sell alot of cpies of sequels to games like these. Sims however, are 'specialst' by comparison and thus they don't have anywhere near the same level of investment for development. The guys who created SH4 did so on a very limited budget. They had to use the SH3 engine for God's sake, and that is almost 4 years old! I think what they've created is a masterpiece! So, cut 'em some slack fellas huh?

Guys, do you want to play a subsim or do you want to look at FSAA? What's wrong with you?

I agree that you've got every right to complain, but please - don't take it so far! Let Ubi know you're unhappy and list it as a glitch; I'm sure the devs will patch it if it's in their power and budget.

It's a game, not a video card benchmark. I'll be glad if I can play SHIV on 1024x768 with the FSAA off and detail mid-high - I don't think I can ask for more. And yet I'm still one of the most anxious clowns on here :p
