One thing we do in HL is play something called "Whale Wars," where we get two bombers and fill all the gun positions w/human players and duel!!! It's usually those early war Soviet bombers (I forget the name) that we use. Actually, exclusively use. And we've always done it on the Oahu map!!

From Monday night...
Oberon can now take-off in a jet...but just forgets to set a timer on his bombs... Oberon and TF ready for take-off! Hunter demonstrates superior Dutch engineering... ...while Oberon demonstrates superior American landings The Franco carrier claims another victim Then meets Oberons MiG-17 Paradrop...you're doing it wrong! Oberons F-86 versus Raptors...erm...Swiss thing... Dakka Dakka Dakka Dakka Oberon vs Schultzs tower One bomb misses, but the other hits the tower spot on, but doesn't kill it straight away... Now out of ammo, Oberon taunts the AAA until it kills him while TF vultures Raptor. Last edited by Oberon; 02-03-10 at 12:48 PM. |

Nationalist Spanish...
Didn't think I was on fire after killing TF, figured the smoke was harmless...

I think the funniest thing about the Franco carrier was the fact that it never made it to the ground, it spun slowly downwards on a vertical axis whilst spewing failed paratroopers and then vanished when you respawned! |

Better.
Yeah, I was waiting for it to go down as well, but, in clear defiance of the laws of gravity, it never did, so I gave up and hit refly... Oh, and some of the paratroopers survived, I believe.

Not many though!
Just added another screenshot in the second batch that Imageshack missed the first time around for some reason. Tell me, in our Sabre vs Salamander duel, how many times did you nearly black out, because you were pulling turns that would have knocked me right out. Our planes were quite closely matched, certainly in turning radius although I think yours could pull a sharper turn than mine, presumably because it's slightly slower? |

The 162 should be a better turner, it being slightly slower and much lighter than the Sabre. Though I think I wasted a bit too much ammo on those failed head-on passes, I think I killed you with my very last shell.

I must admit though, I do like the Sabre, it's a nice jet and unlike the MiG-17 which is also nice, it has air to ground attack ability (in Il2 at least), the F9F2 on the other hand is a bit more finicky, firstly it bunny hops whilst on the ground taxing and then the engine overheats if you push it beyond sixty percent for longer than five seconds and lacks the thrust of a Sabre, which is understandable because she isn't an F-86 For a non-intercepted ground pound I should imagine she'd be quite good...but if something like a MiG-17 come along, I would much rather be in a Sabre than a Panther. |

Well, the F9F is a carrier aircraft, so of course it would be expected to be inferior to a land-based fighter.
I do believe the FMs for most of the Korea jets is wrong though, there's a fixer package on 242Sqn's forums which among other things includes fixed FMs for the Sabre, MiG-15 and MiG-17 (Though I would suggest not installing it unless the rest of us do as well). Oh, I think I saw your wing hit by that last shell, that could've caused it.

I'd second that motion of downloading that fix, I'm one for realism, and I've heard good things about the real life Sabres flight dynamics.
And yes, that would explain it, a shell hole in my wing would wreck my flight model a bit. |

Actually the He 162 should not be able to turn so tightly. It was limited to a rather low G load (there is a warning panel somewhere in the cockpit, at least in the version that actually flew, not sure about the Star Wars thing). I think this was because of the wooden wing construction and the less than perfect glue.
I really hope that they fix the Korea jets. Right now the Panther doesn't have a proper FM and the performance of F86, MiG 15/17 and even the F80 is far too superior to the F84 (or the F84 is far too inferior, either way). I know that it was inferior to the MiGs and Sabres but I think a speed disadvantage of 200 knots is a bit exaggerated.

200 knots?!?!?
Christ, that's taking the 'Lead Sled' nickname a bit too far isn't it? |

IIRC it's even a bit more. You can get the F86 easily over 700 knots in level flight (the gauge ends there...) but you will be hard pressed to get the Thunder jet over 450 knots (let alone that it flies like 40 ton truck compared to the Formula one cars that the F86/MiG15/17s are )
