The same folder you installed the game in

If you didn't change anything, should be:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

Now that we're flying from Finland, often with the Finns but sometimes even as Finns I figured it's a time to take a look at Finnish fighter tactics.

Captain H. Wind's Lectures On Fighter Tactics

Our lecturer achieved 75 victories and survived the war, so it's safe to bet that he probably knows something

This requires strict flight discipline from all pilots. Breaches of discipline have happened, so this matter needs special attention.
Can someone forward this to the allied AI? :hmm:

How can you enjoy the Fw. 190!? I tried it today, knowing that it'd be futile, but I gave it a try. Slightest movement with it threw myself into a spin towards the ground!

It's one of the nicest handling planes in high speed(> 400 km/h). It doesn't like to be close to stall speed as a 109. The good elevator authority at high speeds, which allows you to pull those high speed stalls that are impossible with a 109, are a great asset when diving on the enemy from above. Imho all FWs feel extremely good when flying, but fighting with them is a bit more challenging

Goring
Gut Morgan Mein Luftwaffles!
Today your mission iz to destroy ze Soviet Air Force, to do zis ve vill gif you four Messerschmits!

Oberon
I want a squadron of Spitfires!

Goring
Quiet you at the back!

Raptor
TRAITORS!!

And so started another mission briefing for the Luftwaffles, four 109s against dozens of Soviet airplanes, including the 'Peshkas from Hell'. HunterICX, Raptor1, Fincuan and Oberon had a feeling that this was not going to end particularly well.
We had the runway to ourselves and took off without much ado, with Oberon signalling for assistance futily.
"Ve vill send fighters to your positions!" cried Schultz
"Ja, ja, ja." thought the Luftwaffles.
After fifteen to twenty minutes in the air, the first bandits arrived, I-16s, with Hunter, Fin and Raptor getting stuck right in, Oberon took one look at the mass slaughter and held back, sure that another one would come along in a minute. He was about to dive in and assist Hunter who had got an I-16 on his tail and was badly shot up, when he spotted six dots on the horizon.
'Peshkas from hell!!'
The I-16s dispatched, and Hunter saved by Fin, the Luftwaffles turned towards their next target, Oberon curved in behind the Peshkas, but they had moved when he completed his turn, so he had to repeat the process. During this time Hunter took one bullet too many and lost control, so out he went, fortunately over friendly territory. Oberon curved in behind the Peshkas, and as Fin received a windscreen full of oil, he finally managed to make a kill! The Peshkas wing snapped off and down she went in a nice spiral. All was good, so he made a line up on the second Peshka as Fin dispatched one post haste, however this Peshka had taken his secret supply of vodka and nailed Oberons engine, spewing smoke and oil all over his windshield.
"Aww, that's not fair, how am I going to shoot you through this?!" muttered Oberon as he tried to line up for another shot, then the Peshka opened fire again, and this time fire erupted around the smoke, and Oberon knew that it was time to leave the office.

By this time, Raptor and Fin's aircraft had seen better days, Fin was leaking glycol and Raptors 109 looked like a sieve.

^ Fin
v Raptor

Worse was to come for Raptor, however, as the I-16 which had been following him, decided to make its move:

With wreckage and parachutes littering the landscape, Fin came home and made his landing, bump, jump and undercarriage failure, the Lolwaffles trademark landing technique. Oberon and Hunter were picked up by the Catstapo and subjected to the horrors of a Q&A by Goring.
It was decided...vengence must be ours!

Hunter
So our mission is to go here and bomb everything that moves or doesn't move

Raptor
That's a map of England

Hunter
All of our budget went on new 109s and the bill for your stay at Uncle Joes, so imagine that this is Murmansk...

Raptor
Can I imagine that I'm flying a Do 19?

Hunter
No!

With Raptor and Hunter in Ju88s, and Fin, Oberon and welcome returner Xabba in 109s, the Lolwaffles walked out of the Base Bar, and straight into a raging thunderstorm. No sooner had the 109s been parked on the runway than the wind was blowing them in circles, the three fighters must have wished that they had taken the heavier 88. However, with plenty of left rudder, the 109s were airborne, dodging lightning bolts as they climbed.
They fought their way through the cloud layer and up into the sunlight where they levelled off and grouped up, ready to escort the 88s when they got up. But Hunter had looked at the route and the bombload and decided eventually that by the time they had gotten above the clouds they would most likely be over the target, and so wisely decided to remain below the clouds. Fin, suggested that the 109s scout ahead for trouble, and Oberon, who realised to his horror that he was the staffel leader for something more than the AI, agreed and then prayed to god that he didn't get everyone killed.
Up ahead, some Junkers were being shot at and massacred, their crews jumping out and then killed by Russian flak, the 109s saw the tracers and tried to close, but the action was pretty much over by the time they arrived, however Fin then spotted some 'Peshkas from hell' and dived in, Oberon turned to intercept, but overegged it and blacked out, coming to at 710km/h heading towards the ground. With plenty of swearing and a check to see that the wings were still on, he climbed back up, but by then the action was all over. Hunter and Raptor meanwhile continued their bombing run and depopulated Murmansk of at least four factories and a train car. As the bombers were turning for home, passing over the wreckage of those who had gone before, Oberon decided to call it a day, and as Fin approached from his twelve o clock and Xabba from his nine, the 109s formed up and headed home, with only a test from Xabba to see how long a full burst of MG fire would last to interupt the journey.

However, eventually the 109s could stay above the clouds no longer, they would have to descend, back down to the airbase and into that turbulent storm raged hell.
Fin was the first to land, deciding to boycott the runway and land on the parkway.

Oberon continued to circle, looking for a gap where he could land after everyone else, so if it all went horribly wrong, he wouldn't hold up the rest of the squadron. Raptor landed at some point, but then drama! Schultz came through on the radio telling a Ju88 to "Nicht landen" however, the Ju88 ignored him "Negative, I'm going in!" and with one engine heavily damaged, made his landing, and survived...right up to the point where he got to the taxi-way, parked up and exploded...

Oberon, during this drama turned over the runway, dropped his gear and flaps and tried to join Fin on the parkway, this resulted in the trademark loss of undercarriage, so well know amongst the Lolwaffle. Xabba went one stage further and crashed into a tree. Finally, Hunter made his approach to a runway with a 109 taxi-ing on it.

Fin
"Runway isn't clear!"

Oberon
"Nicht Landen, ich wiederhole, Nicht Landen!!"

Hunter used his rudder to slide across to the taxi-way and put the Ju88 down there, thankful that it was a big heavy bomber he was piloting and not the 'tip over on a pfenning' Me109.

Thus ended todays missions.

Excellent, thanks.
Now please be patient with this nub. I've popped it into that folder, but when I run the game, it still says 4.07m in the corner.

Am I meant to run the patch, or just pop it into the folder? Perhaps i'll need to download it again, and not try saving it to desktop first? When i double click it, it asks what program I want to use to open it with.

help!

If you have the same patch as I do then it's a self-extracting .rar that is zipped with a readme. First you unzip it which should result in an .exe and a readme.txt. You run the .exe and it asks for your IL2 installation path. Once it has as extracted all the files you should be done.
