YES! YEEEES! At last, a grammatically correct spelling of the word grammar!
I'd better be promoted to Junior Grammar Nazi now!

Bump.
Thoughts on continuing this? Takeda is willing to buy IL2 (on sale at GoG at the moment) and join us, Schroeder can join in too. I think that it's the only game that we all have that we can all play like we have done with ARMA2. It's more stable than CloD and has more missions than RoF and doesn't have a learning curve like DCS, and we all have it or can get it for a low price. I vote aye. |

I'm in the process of trying to get IL-2 and HSFX properly installed (somehow I fail to get perfect textures and bigger resolution to work) so given that I'm around when you play, or rather given that you are willing to suffer my incompetence, I'd be glad to join.

I'm a bit divided about this. I think we would pretty much immediately run into the same problem as before: DCG.
If we were to find a proper campaign somewhere however I would be willing to give it another go.

I am in favour of playing IL-2 in general, of course, so I vote Aff. As for missions, from what I recall the last time we tried DCG (in this very thread) it worked out pretty well until we got sidetracked by some other game, so we can give that another shot. Alternatively (my preferred option), we can do what we did with that old P-38 campaign and find some hand-made campaign we can use and then modify it to suit our needs (with personal aircraft and the like). This gives us something that isn't DCG but doesn't require us to make our own missions, which we often get bogged down with.
One thing I think we should avoid though in both DCG or a hand-made campaign is having it set too early in the war. While we had some rather fun campaigns in Spain, Poland, France and so forth, we usually find ourselves trying to progress through the whole war and then being stuck in Russia or something and dropping the whole thing. This time we should try starting in 1942 or 1943 at least, which will also give us a much greater variety of aircraft and theater choices.

I did suggest that Raptor grab a campaign and modify it, and run both a DCG and a mod campaign together so that we don't get grinded down by DCG and it will make the limited amount of online co-op campaigns last longer. There is also the option of occasional dogfights and single co-op missions to throw into the mix.
DCG does get on my nerves sometimes too, but when you take a look at the online campaign list on M4T it's rather sparse and we've played most of them. In regards to the early war machine question, I do see where you're coming form Raptor, but historically there's only a limited time frame in between early German air superiority over Russia and then Germany getting its backside handed to it from the left and right. |
