Yeah, I know that.

Local pharmacies are beginning to vaccinate health care workers in my area.

About the same for California

California averaged more than 40,000 new coronavirus infections every day for the week prior to Christmas

Texas reported 26,990 new COVID-19 cases, breaking the previous daily record set less than a week ago

At the same time the EU insists that they only use a Biontech-Pfizer flask for arming five injections, although one such flask has enough content for arming six, even seven. At least they have had tbeir precious moment of - claimed but non-existent - unity. Nobody cares for that value, but the phrase has a glorious thunder in its echo, and some politicians shone out their narcissistic and PR-craving ego again. There is always the possibility of EU unity being ignored when the going gets tough within its ranks/membership and think the above is a sorry but obvious example.

I'm honestly glad we're out of it and any blunders made will be down to ourselves.

Those figures are really quite alarming and are inching toward the number of deaths in North America which are reportedly within two thousand short of half a million.

People across the UK are being urged not to celebrate the New Year with anyone outside their household.

Around the world celebrations have been scaled down, with fireworks displays and other public gatherings cancelled from Sydney to New York.

School closures in England will be kept as short as possible, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson says.

There is "absolutely no reason" schools will not be ready to mass test pupils when they return next term, he adds.

More than three quarters of England's population are now living under the strictest tier four Covid rules.

The New Year honours list has recognised hundreds of people for their work during the pandemic - including scientists and NHS staff.

France is to mobilise 100,000 police on New Year's Eve to break up parties and enforce a curfew imposed to combat the spread of the virus. Like other European countries, France will see muted celebrations for New Year's Eve.

Ireland will move to its highest level of restrictions on Thursday, banning all household visits, closing all non-essential retail and limiting travel to 5km (three miles)

Germany is currently under lockdown until 10 January. The government has banned the sale of fireworks and put in place tight restrictions on the number of people who can gather in public. Health Minister Jens Spahn said he expects the country to have the "quietest New Year's Eve" in living memory.

The Netherlands is currently under a lockdown which is set to last until 19 January. Its usual countdown will take place behind closed doors at a football stadium in Amsterdam.

Turkey will begin a four-day-long lockdown on New Year's Eve.

China has given conditional approval for general public use to a coronavirus vaccine developed by the state-owned pharmaceutical company Sinopharm.

In Australia, a pre-Christmas coronavirus outbreak in Sydney is believed to have spread to Melbourne, breaking a two-month run of zero community infections there.

On Wednesday, the US reported a record 3,927 Covid-related deaths in 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to nearly 350,000

The German lockdown will be extended, one can take that as certain.

Germany currently has more deaths per 100K population than the US. The UK tops both.

https://ig.ft.com/coronavirus-chart/...&values=deaths

However, Germany has tremendously less new cases per 100K population. I take this as a hint for Germany currently suffering a massive over-mortality from Covid. Political leaders currently handle the vaccination campaign like they ha dled the BER airport. I got the impression they are already immune - immune to learning from their faults.

https://ig.ft.com/coronavirus-chart/...1&values=cases

You can compare your own country in those graphs, too. Make sure you chose "per 100K", and "linear scaling", for easiest comparability.

Here is a general global overview, date Decembre 23rd.
https://www.ft.com/content/a2901ce8-...c-cbdf5b386938

All in all, Germany nevertheless still does pretty well compared to most other countries.

Why the vaccination strategy of the EU and Germany are causin delays and problems already at the very beginning.

No comparison with the speed of vaccination in other parts of the world, namely Israel: in Israel over one million of their 8.8 million population already got a jab. And that was 36 hours ago. Could it be that they set other and more functional priorities than the slowly waking EU?

https://translate.google.com/transla..._12827022.html

Maybe the EU strategy was well-meant and even reasonable from a fiscal POV - but that they did not react when they saw first signs of it not functioning well and when being offered additional offers, shows the old and typical symptom of the EU for which I like and love it so very much.

Additional people will become ill for this, and quite a few of these will go through hell for this, and some of them will even die for this.

And "money" is not an argument anyway: the EU lets the ECB inflate the currency volume at will and prints new currency by the billions, not caring for the cataclysmic longterm consequences from this. They wanted to shine, and put glory and fame above realistic pragmatism once again.

Once again.

Addition to the above:

The EU by administrative and legal status is not the authority to mandatorily decide whether to buy vaccination drugs and to what ammount, and who gets what and when. It has no authority to do this, all nations being members of the EU voluntarily delegated that decision to the EU. The EU also has no authority of any kind to order measures and adminstrative tools in nations that are meant to fight the pandemic, it only can want to serve as an advisor - though an advisor who likes to pose as if he has any authority to give commands and orders: but he has none. This detail should be known.

Thats why German media started to call Merkel's decisions to delegate the decisions on the vaccination buying program to Brussels now as the biggest and worst mistake of here complete almost 16 years of governing. "The Chancellor's most devastating decision in 15 years in office", FOCUS magazine has titled today.

She will be gone some time later this year. Well, 16 years too late, I say.

It becomes even less charming when considering that Super-Uschi at the helm of the EU commission by her studied profession is a doctor herself. But as so often before in her political "career", she revealed a big discrepancy between reality as it is, and her way of reflecting about it. In her time as German defence ministerinessiness it was especially bad.

Staff absences and the new Covid variant are creating a "challenging situation" in hospitals, NHS bosses say.

London hospitals say they are under huge pressure, with whole floors being converted to intensive care wards.

Emergency Nightingale hospitals are being readied across the country, but experts warn staffing may be a problem.

Imperial College London analysis confirms the new variant of the virus has a much faster rate of transmission than the original strain.

Experts defended the UK's new strategy to give more people a first dose of the vaccine, while delaying the second.

Eight London boroughs have urged ministers to delay the re-opening of primary schools as others move to online teaching.

It comes as the nation saw in the New Year without traditional parties, amid warnings for people to stay at home.

Another 53,285 cases of coronavirus were reported in the UK on Friday, and a further 613 deaths.
